November 27, 2009Childhood Tunes.I don't know about you, but the music I listened to as a child adapted me to listen what I listen to now. I grew up listening from this to that and the other thing and I think it helped me have a broad understanding of music now. Here are some bands I listened to growing up, and sure as hell still listen to!
I'm not sure about you guys, but blink-182 was probably one of the bigget infulences on my life. My older brother, (seven years older than I) introduced me to them, I've been listening to them since I can remember. I remember being so exited when Take Off Your Pants and Jacket came out, and Untitled. I own every blink album created and I cried when they broke up/went on hiatus. Yes, I was one of those kids who jumped around on their bed, playing skilled air guitar and belted out the words to Dammit. I was not a sheltered child when it came to language, so their lyrics never phased me. Although, when my brother taught me how to sing Easy Target, my mother was not pleased. The first song I ever learned on drums was The Rock Show and is my favorite to play.
Jimmy Eat World. Oh dear, how do I explain these boys? So what if I was four when Clarity came out? Again, my brother. My brother was who I looked up to when I was younger, he was cool.. Sort of. The second I listened to Jim's voice I knew I was in love. Not joking. Their music was real, and I knew it. It was something I could relate to as I grew up, every album, every song. Their album Bleed American was my anthem as I grew up, not to mention Futures, and Chase The Light. A Sunday was my favorite song for three and a half years and I remember laying on my floor, legs up on my bed, nearly broken headphones resting on my ears and let each fabric of the song let me escape.
These boys hold a special place in my heart because their are from Washington Transatlanticism is one of my favorite songs of all time, the soul of that song 'I need you so much closer' is hauting and brilliant. I had the joy of seeing Death Cab play at Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival in Seattle of 2008, let me tell you, it was a mind blowing experience. They put on quite a show, it wasn't because of the fireworks or the mass amount of people. It was because of their music, how they can adapt to any setting and the music flows freely through the air. Once again, my brother, showed me Death Cab and I've been in love ever since. I had always wondered what drew Ben Gibbard to be such a lyrical genius. I still don't know, but I've grown not to question it.
Third Eye Blind, oh boy. I must say, my brother is what got me into music. Third Eye Blind never failed to create honest music. Everything about them is just amazing, I know not a creative sentence, but how else do I word it? Their self titled album was one I'll cherish forever. When they let the world know know of their hiatus I was heartbroken. How could they stop creating such music? I held onto their album Blue forever, in hopes that they might reunite. And they did, they broke out with Out of the Vein. Yet another full album do add to my collection. There is is. The bands that got me into music, I'm so thankful for them. Sounds corny, but without them I don't know what the hell I would be listening to now. So. Leave a comment below telling me what band or artist you listened to when you were younger! -- Bands that I listened to growing up that didn't make the list: Coldplay The Starting Line Bright Eyes No Doubt Sunny Day Real Estate The Beatles

November 8, 2009My Usual Schedule Before a GigBasically, me and my band,"Trial of the Exes" Try hard to find a good gig. Sometimes they end up being at a family party but still we make it totally worth it. We are mostly a band that sings unknown band covers so people will get a taste of music not usually heard today like Eyes Set to Kill or old bands like Blink 182 or Papa Roach. Here's the schedule: 1. We meet up at my house and talk about our final choices for songs and everything. Also choose what to wear for the show. 2. We get dropped off at the gig place and begin setting up our equipment. (My lucky microphone is a black one with Glamour Kills and Paramore stickers with gray tape on it) 3. We warm up then practice before any guests come over. 4. Go over intros, outros, and some encore songs we would like to do. (Usually we end with a crowd sond like How You Love Me Now or Feeling This by Blink 182.) 5. Make sure the sound quality is good and practice the songs we are gonna sing. 6. If we have free time, text, talk to friends or just play basketball as a calm down practice so we don't get cold feet. 7. Pray that we will be good or do our usual handshake that goes like,"Trial of the Exes! We fight for you!" 8. LET THE GIG BEGIN!!
That's not me in the picture, that's Cassadee Pope :( I wish I could post pics of me and my band but my dad said that it's dangerous and unless you want to be stalked you won't do it xP Dads are so over protective.

October 22, 2009Too Drunk to Know BetterI'm either too drunk to know better, or I truly am in the holiday spirit. Either way shipping's free for the next week. So check out the PRR store and maybe, just maybe, if you're also too drunk to know better, you'll buy some pointless merch that you'll undoubtedly regret once the hangover subsides. PRR's kind of like that fugly person you wake up with after a night of binge drinking. It sounded like a good idea after the three jager bombers and the pint of rum and coke. But then you wake up and realize that you would have been better off getting cold-clocked in the family jewels. Store! Bam!

Music, Healthcare Reform and Why You Need To CareWhen Pete Wentz was 23 years old, his life was not like most of ours. Pete was spending his time traveling around in a van with his friends and bandmates trying to make Fall Out Boy happen. However, Pete did have something in common with an overwhelming number of 23 year olds: he had no health insurance. And according to what he said in a forum on Wednesday night, hosted by Passtheball.com and Rock The Vote, his choices amounted to either pay for health insurance or put gas in the van. Insurance or buy a new amp. Insurance or promotion for the band. Read more...

October 7, 2009[1]It's Always You[1][[Hellooo...so after the inconvenience of being stuck in the parking lot last night after the Blink show, I decided to write a story from it because I get inspired from weird things. Other than being stuck in the parking lot sleeping for a few hours, the show was amazing. FERSURE. EPIC. Oh, and the banner is a pic I took last night from their set background.]]
"Something's wrong, this is gonna shock them." "Dude, of all the fucking times for this to happen." Roxanne groaned from the backseat. She leaned back against the seat, both of the palms of her hands pressed against her forehead. Roxanne was a slender girl with jet black hair that was cut into choppy layers the just about stood up if they weren't straightened and icy blue eyes, which she usually coated in thick lines of black eyeliner. A silver ring graced the right side of her nose, and another graced the left side of her lip. Her friend Haley, a pretty blue eyed girl with sleek golden blonde hair, was sitting in the driver's seat, attempting for about the hundredth time to start the Mustang she, Roxanne, and their friend Maria were sitting in. Maria had jet black hair like Roxanne, also in choppy layers, except Maria had brown eyes. She had a lip ring on the same side as Roxanne. The three girls were parked in the VIP Parking Lot of the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. It was just after Blink-182 had played their show, and the three girls were getting worried. The car just absolutely would not start. "What are we gonna do man? It's not like there's anyone who could take us home at this point." Maria pointed out, leaning back in the passenger seat. Haley shrugged, slamming her fists against the steering wheel. "This car is a stupid piece of shit." Haley said simply, folding her arms and shaking her head. "It must be the damn alternator...if it was the battery the fucking lights wouldn't even come on." Haley mumbled to herself, Roxanne and Maria left clueless. They knew pretty much nothing about cars. "Well....if we're going to be sitting here, may as well get comfortable." Roxanne decided, digging through her bag on the floor of the car and yanking out a pair of blue plaid pajama pants and the Blink-182 baseball shirt she had purchased at the show. Ducking down to where other people in the parking lot couldn't see her, she pulled on her clothes, sitting back up and adjusting her hair slightly. She laid down, stretching her body across the tiny backseat, curling up her legs to where she was lying in kind of a ball. "Dammit...I guess I'll call my mom..." Haley muttered, reaching into her pocket and grasping for her Blackberry. Maria sighed, pulling out her enV3 and logging into her Myspace. Roxanne rolled her eyes, sighing. "Because she's actually going to drive two fucking hours to Charlotte to come get us." Roxanne scoffed, knowing that that probably wasn't going to happen. Nevertheless, she left Haley to call her mom anyway, shutting her eyes and rolling up her hoodie to use as a pillow. Roxanne felt herself dozing off, and when she awoke, her friends were passed out in their seats as well. She sat up, rubbing her eyes, careful not to mess up her eyeliner too terribly bad. Looking around, Roxanne saw that their was absolutely no one left in the parking lot...except for the oddly familar shape the was making its way towards the Mustang. A knock on the window startled Roxanne as she rolled down the window, shooting glares at her heavy sleeping friends before glancing over to the man knocking on the window. "Mark Hoppus!?!?" "That's me, little lady." Mark chuckled. Mark was the bassist and co-singer of Blink-182. He was a handsome, blue eyed man with brown hair that stuck out in every direction and the cutest two front teeth anyone could ever see. Mark reminded Roxanne of a bunny, and maybe that was why she found him so adorable. Actually more than adorable...more like the most gorgeous man on the face of the Earth. "Are you guys having some issues?" "Slightly..." Roxanne stuttered, squeezing her body through the driver's side window and doing a face plant into the gravel. After that, she immediately felt like an idiot, having ate shit in front of Mark Allan Hoppus and all. "Dammit." Roxanne muttered, beginning to push herself up off the ground when a hand was extended in front of her. She took it hesitantly, the callused hand closing around her smooth one and pulling her up to stand on her feet. "Thanks..." Roxanne mumbled, blushing a deep shade of red while brushing the dust from her clothes, realizing that she was, in fact, still wearing pajamas. "I'm so fucking embarrassed." "No need to be...I think a girl is just as beautiful in pajamas as she is in jeans." Mark said simply, continuing. "And everyone face plants. That's life." He said, smiling at Roxanne. She blushed deeper, kicking the ground with the tip of her Converse. "Haa, yeah. I'm Roxanne, by the way. My friends call me Rox." Rox said, still kicking the ground. She forced herself to finally look up at Mark, who was smiling at her. "Well that's a cute name." Mark complimented, Roxanne blushing even more. "Anyways, what seems to be the slight issue?" Mark asked nodding towards the Mustang where Haley and Maria were still passed out. Roxanne shrugged, failing to remember what exactly Haley had decided was wrong with it. For all she knew, the damn thing wouldn't start. "It won't start. There's something wrong with the aluminator or something. Or whatever. It just won't start." Rox answered. Now was kind of a bad time to not know anything about cars. "You mean the alternator?" Mark asked, and Rox nodded. "It looks like you won't be getting home anytime soon then." Mark told her, and Rox sighed. "This is great. Just great. Haley called her mom and I guess she's not coming to get us because it's 4 in the fucking morning. She called her hours ago. We're totally FUCKED. Fucked with capital letters." Rox began flipping out, eventually taking a seat in the gravel and leaning back against the car. "Fuck. my life." Mark sat down beside her, laying a hand on top of one of hers and looking at her thoughtfully. "What?" "How would you like to catch a ride with Blink?" <to be continued>
