December 12, 2009Hey, hey guys! Can I get in on this here? That song has been stuck in my head for some time. Hi, So, my first real BIG show. I'm so nervous. Well, we've played like smaller deals like Cafes and my high school...but a club? I'm so excited, nervous, and anxious. There are so many bigger local bands...even one from my high school. Maybe that just means I'll have someone to talk to at soundcheck. And on the thirty first, theres an EVEN BIGGER club that we're playing at. I mean, what the heck? We formed in October...shouldnt we be just putzing around...waiting for things to happen? But I guess we do work hard. I talk to club owners and managers almost daily looking for places to play..because I want to do this for a long time. And I'm under the impression that that is what I am supposed to do. But most of these local bands dont ever get past Ignite. (the place we are playing tonight) I dont want to be one of those. And I think the guys dont either. We acutally had a conversation about touring two days ago. We all want to. So we gotta get this show on the road. Ha! Literally. We've got nine or ten songs. About three covers...so that should last us about 45 minutes. God, I hope we can fill our spot. And we played a 30 min one at the high school...and my voice was so angry at me. But I think if I don't eat dairy and drink lots of water, i should be fine. Wish me luck. And Your Bird Can Sing, Katie Excuse the Beatles reference.

December 1, 2009Spending the Night With JohnHe sits there At the edge of her bed She can't help but stare She's in love with what he read There's nowhere else tonight Like the city of Liverpool The lights are shining bright Like their cousins in the sky He's sharing things she could never learn in school About how bringing peace can end the war And how Maxwell's hammer was a deadly tool She thinks about what he said before How he'll always say Hello and not goodbye John Begins to play Running his fingers along his guitar She wants him to stay But he won't go far He sits there with her Playing what he wrote She spends time in a graceful blur Hanging on to every note She watches him Feeling along the fretboard Long and slim She listens to John Play his song While he watches her move She plays like she's known all along Her fingers move up and down so smooth John follows each word she sings And she with him She'll never know how much happiness she brings John puts down his guitar Thinking of more to play From the day they met, they've come so far Understanding now what John's been trying to say She won't be afraid She won't worry about being alone Not after the promise that John just made When he finished his song It came to be known She was spending the night with John

October 13, 2009IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE PMORE!!! CONCERT THAT I WENT TO WITH CLAIRE.....READ THE NOVEL.SOOOO... I went to the Paramore concert at HOB Chicago...with Cuhlaire, who convieniently forgot to mention me....the whole time. WOW, kthanks Claire. And that's all I can think about. UGH. And I'm talking to my boyfriend Dustin at the same time I'm writing this, and I REALIZE THAT I NEED TO BREAK UP WITH HIM. Soon. Really, soon. I've been planning it for a while, but I'm such a pansy. God. He's a nice kid, but I'm really just not that attracted to him. He's a good musician though. NOTHING BUT SHOES (the band) And the band is going well, we are practicing on Wednesday, and hope to write two new songs, so we can have like, a five song demo thingr. We've got "No Chance (With Missy)", "One Way", and "Blame Game". Hopefully my lyrics for "Like a Child" and maybe "The Disease", will work for the next session. This band stuff is unbelievably fun. Who knew that I'd love to coordinate these things? Our bassist was caught with some naughty grass so now we have to deal with him not showing up. Dang bassist. We hope to play at a local venue (ignite) soon. Oh, and we should also be getting a myspace page up and running within the week. So, I'll let you know, the two people who read this. Maybe even less. And I wrote a song called "Burning Up" with this guy who plays mostly acoustic guitar. We are gonna do a Songwriter's Showcase thing at a coffeehouse next month. Hopefully I can coerce him into doing a cover of Misguided Ghosts. (love it.) We're also going to jam with his friend, Kyle, soon. Hopefully, I'll post some links soon so you guys can see that I'm not just all talk. I want to hear your criticisms. I may even stop referencing the Beatles. Until then, I am the Walrus (I hope I havent done a "Walrus" one yet.), Katie

September 8, 2009The 60s and 70s in Pop Music
The 60s
The 60s gave us hippies, stoners, and The Beatles.
These four British boys stole the hearts of every American girl and continue to influence nearly all known music today. The band, however, really existed for only about one decade. They're many chart topping hits consisted strongly at first of pop, "Love Me Do" being probably the best known. The Beatles characterized American pop music during the 60s, but there were many other pop bands during that time. The Buckinghams were one of many bands that sounded likethe Beatles.
The Buckinghams' songs "Kind of a Drag" and "Don't You Care" were both chart toppers in 1967. However, The Beach Boys
also emerged during this decade. There hits consisted of sunny melodies and feel-good lyrics. Their song California Girls has been covered many times by many different bands. Their other great hits from the 60s were Barbara Ann and Surfin' USA. The Beach Boys outlasted the Beatles and entered the 70s with their album The Sunflower, which was greeted as their finest album by critics.
The 70s While the 70s brought new performers into the limelight, many bands from the 60s still continued to shine. Most notably the Jackson 5, a band that started out in 1964, became a sensation. A little Michael Jackson (now commonly referred to as the King of Pop) and his brothers (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon) continued their careers together until 1989. Please listen to ABC.
Another group that continued from the 60s was The Supremes, but their name changed several times. (The Supremes->Diana Ross and the Supremes->Diana Ross)
A brief selection of their most popular songs would have to include Ain't No Mountain High Enough (which I can't find a video for), I Hear a Symphony, and the Happening.
However, there was one musical act that continuosly stayed on top of the charts worldwide during the 70s, and that was ABBA. Abba created many songs the most amazing of which, in my opinion, are Mamma Mia!, Waterloo, and Take a Chance on Me.
Please Note: I can't write about Woodstock, "Blood, Sweat, and Tears", or "The Rolling Stones", because that is rock music. :(
I'm also leaving out a lot of pop music, but I feel bad about not posting anything in 2 months.

September 5, 2009Yellow Submarine Remake!?In the light of the new Beatles Rockband release, everything has been Beatles, all the time, recently. I have no problem with that... they're the first band I ever fell in love with. I'm sure many of you feel the same way about them - they're legends and essentially began the whole rock n' roll craze in the States.
The Yellow Submarine, released in 1968, has become somewhat of a cult classic, embodying the psychadelic lifestyle, as well as some of the best Beatles songs out there. Recently, it has been released that Robert Zemeckis and Disney will be re-making the classic. My first reaction was, well, not exactly excited. This is the Beatles. I had the same kind of doubt before I saw Across the Universe, but that surely wasn't a remake. It was just a re-imagination of the Beatles' music. That was a great way to reinvent something classic, without trying to capture any original essence... and now it's one of my favorite movies. Ever. However, this. is. a. REMAKE. I think often times, remakes can go wrong, and when you're dealing with a band as legendary as the Beatles, you have to be super cautious. And seriously... if it hasn't been remade yet, isn't it too late? The Beatles don't even exist anymore. Half of them aren't even ALIVE. HOW IS THIS EVEN GOING TO WORK? I'll probably go see it just because it's the Beatles, but I'm currently a skeptic. What do you guys think about this idea?

August 31, 2009HAVE DECIDED:A few key points today: I have decided: That Halleluja is quite possibly the best Paramore song recorded. Then again, havent heard the new album yet. *puts on eagerly awaiting face* That a band called Thisismybandnamegetoverit may be the way to go. That boys to drum and guitar for you are really hard to pin down, but then again, so am I. That school shouldnt start, cause I need more time for band practices. That being boyfriended isnt really that fun. That I am extremely focused. Just focused on the wrong things, according to Mommy. (After all, I do write a new song like, every other day.) SEE? That I really need to get going and practice with these guys so we can play gigs and outdo every annoying school band my school has to offer. Not to mention that I really want my music out there. Thats the real drive, have no doubts. That I really need some good topics so I can post about them, cause this band crap is getting old, even to me. Cheers. Can't Buy Me Love, Katie Excuse the Beatles reference.
