Bonfire reflection

Bonfire reflection

Have you ever wondered why it is so much easier to make good friends in a middle of the desert or on the ridge of the mountain pass, than in a city with millions of people, in crowded bar? If you haven’t chances are you don’t hike much. There is something special about bonfire, it forges a friendships, like nothing else.

I'm just curious what are the places where you met your best friends?

I almost forgot, I have to give Jurek1 credit for making sparks with the stick, I promised that if I post it, I will give him a credit, so here it is - satisfied?

I think that people don't connect easily in cities just because they're easily distracted by everything that is happening...
In places like the desert, a trail, you can focus, you can be yourself, therefore all your senses are "available", and not only that but you are part of the elements around you...
In a city you're not much an element, only a thing...
But I met my bestfriend when my Mum went ringing to her door doing the recensement...My Mum just wanted to connect with people, she did things like these all her life, meeting, connecting, helping a lot of people...So, that's how I met my bestfriend.
And I have to say that I actually can connect in Santa Cruz, with my community but I go look for it, I go downtown and spend some time, I stop, listen to musicians, look at artists work, you know, if you don't go look for it, and want to be opened, then not much real could happened I guess...??
This is such a beautiful shot...

Fire sure is good. Warms the heart, gives folks something to focus on. Im not too good at making best friends, takes a while with me, have to have them around alot, and they have to make the effort. Im introverted and, lazy, unless stimulated. I think Im at my best when Im actively doing something, with a shared purpose.

I did meet one of my very good friends at such a fire..He was from Germany and he had never eaten toasted marshmallows before..so I showed him how. It was fascinating watching a grown man experience something like that..He was like a little boy again, it was very charming.

Last week in a Bar, during my weekly Sunday breakfast some other regulars, bartender, waitress some children and I, we were roasting marshmallows in a fireplace on long toothpicks, believe it or not it was my first time eating roasted marshamllows.

My favorite campfire food is baked banana and chocolate.
Slit the banana insert cadburys chocolate (or something other than Hershey's), wrap in aluminum foil. Place in coals. Gooey banana and melted chocolate. Yummy.

Banana and melted chocolate, that sounds amazing!!!
I have to say that would try pear-bananaaaaa too, oh my!!!
I had my first smores when I came to visit here in the US, back in 2000, with my very very good friends Anjil and Marvin and it was really surreal to me, plus a nice guitar playing and singing, that was perfect.

Ok, since we drifted from friends to food (both close to my heart) Maybe we can start collecting some bonfire recipes. My long time favorite is Polish Kielbasa, roasted over the flames, with baked potato (baked in charcoals) or rye bread toast over the flames of course, and baked apple, also baked in charcoal (remove the core put some sugar on the inside with cinnamon, rap in tin foil, delicious )

I really like baked apple with cinnamon, crystallized ginger, raisins and honey added. What is Polish Kielbasa? I have still never had Smores, although we did toast marshmallows as a kid.

Sausage, Polish Sausage, but don't buy in a supermarket, because those can actually put out the fire.
