September 10, 2009Seven Simple WordsMusic has always been a huge part of my life. It seems that since my parents took me home from the hospital to the sounds of Whitney Houston singing I Will Always Love You, to my mother singing Native American lullabies and my father chanting peyote songs to put me to sleep, fantastic music has constantly surrounded me. In the car on long road trips the stereo filled my senses with heavy metal, and 70's and 80's music, with a heavy dose of John Mellencamp and U2. Although my parents' musical tastes haven't changed too much, albeit my mother now seemingly enjoys country, the gift of an iPod has enhanced my ability to choose the type of music I listen to. In recent years I've immersed myself in music that inspires me, be it the classical masterpieces of Beethoven, or the fast paced aggressive music of the band As I Lay Dying. As much as music brings me pleasure and comfort, attending concerts takes it to a much higher level. Since first seeing Britney Spears in Orlando with my grandparents, the excitement of hearing live performances had me hooked. The 18th, and most recent concert I've attended, was the Warped Tour at Vinoy Park in St.Pete where dozens of bands played throughout the day. The reality is that this tends to be a costly hobby for which reason I obtained my first job. However menial it seemed, my earnings allowed me to hear several of my favorite artists this past spring and summer. All music inspires me, but one band in particular, Anberlin, has greatly impacted my life. "There's more to living than being alive." The seven simple words penned by Anberlin's vocalist/lyricist, Stephen Christian, have had a lasting impact on my view of life and how to live it. The first time the lyrics ever passed through my speakers it seemed there was something special about them. Maybe it was the way they were sung or the music that flowed so perfectly alongside them, but at the time I wasn't able to put my finger on exactly what made them so profound. What was immediately apparent, though, was my adoration for the simple line and its message that life is not to be spent simply existing, but to be embraced and lived to the fullest extent.
I hope this is satisfactory for Miss Franklin. If not, I give up. I do not like that teacher :[ By the way, I love to write, but writing essays sucks butt. Related Groups:

August 29, 2009The Academy Is..., Anberlin & Buzznet Aniversary!I am dreadfully sorry to anyone I complained to about me not going to see TAI/Anberlin. Once I got in, I got an Anberlin poster & teeshirt. I moshed for the first time during TAI. Moshing's fun it's just the fact that Id rather listen to the music, but it was good. I was 3rd person from the barrier - a boo ya. Set list - Not in order:
Hugh was amazed by Mr Bucket's dance moves (i.e. he did thriller!) & his cool swinging of microphone around his legs and face. Anberlin came on. Fuck. So. Good. Set list - Not in order: & it truly was. The BEST GIG I HAVE BEEN TO. Now Im sad it's over.
Also, Buzznet aniversary on the 25th - 5 days after I saw PATD/Cobra/TAI.
Love you guys so much! : D

August 26, 2009Essay #1 Help?I like to think that my love for music knows no bounds. I love listening to all sorts of genres; from the classical masterpieces of Beethoven and Chopin to the intense sounds of Slipknot and Metallica. Every note that has passed through my ears has affected me in many different ways, but there is one album which is completely different from the rest, that means more to me than any other. Anberlin's second album, and best in my opinion, Cities. The album includes both beautifully haunting and loud, soaring vocals. On different tracks the sharp guitar playing transforms from loud and powerful to perfectly soft seemlessly, just like the intense drumming of Nate Young. It's difficult to describe just how the music that the five musicians create makes me feel, it just does. I think it's the raw, emotionally charged lyricist/vocalist Stephen Christian sing so perfectly. OR maybe how every song seems to flow so perfectly into the next.
So, on buzznet this is only three paragraphs long, which is true on paper, but it's over one page becuase we have to skip lines in my new english class, great. But, that's all I've got so far. I have no idea what else I'm going to do, I know I wrote a journal a while back about how much I loved Cities, haha, maybe I can just look at that. But, opinions? What can I work on, what can I drop? Help? :]
