THERES PANIC IN MY LIFE - CHAPTER 16

I ran around and grabbed all the things I thought I would need. I managed to fill my massive country road bag. I was just putting all the stuff I was using for my treatment in the bag when I got a text from Alex saying he didn’t know where I actually lived. I told him the address and quickly got changed into my skinnys, my blink 182 shirt, my flip flops, a gray beanie and chucked on a small bit of make up. Alex sent me a text saying he was hear just as I was putting my toothbrush in my bag. I went down stairs and saw him in a sweet convertible.

 

“Wow. Nice car.’ I said getting in. “I didn’t know Virgin paid this well.”

“They don’t. It was a present from the parents for finishing school.” He smiled. God he had a great smile.

“Very nice. God, how long are you planning to stay?” he laughed looking at my bag.

“Shut up! I need to have options.” I said punching him in the arm.

“Oh, should I wear the blue pj shorts of the red ones?” he said mocking me.

“Oh you are so funny.” I said sarcastically.

“Yes, yes I am.” He said very seriously. We pulled up to this gorgeous house about 5mins away.

“Wow, this is yours?” I said getting out.

“Well, mine and Jack’s” he said. “I inherited it from my grandma and since Jack and I are like brothers, it’s his too. Or at least until he annoys the shit out of me for the last time.” He laughed evilly. “Come on, Jack said he can’t wait to get to know you.”

“Little old me?” I laughed.

“Haha., yeah you silly.” He grabbed my hand and we ran into the house. He should me his bedroom first so I could put my stuff down. He got me and beer and then we went out to sit by the pool because that’s where everyone else was.

“Caite!” Jack yelled as he saw me.

“Jack! Hey man. What’s doing?” I asked sitting next to him.

“Just chilling, not much really. Oh Caite, meet Zach and Rian. Guys this is Caite” he said to the other two sitting next to us.

“Hey Caite” Rian said

“Yeah, hey” Zach said.

“Nice to meet you guys.” I said. Alex came and sat next to me.

“You know how I was telling you about the band, well your looking at all that’s in it.” He said smiling.

“Oh yeah that’s right. So do I get to hear anything tonight?” I asked.

“Maybe, depends.” He laughed.

“So what brings you to the house of Jack?” Jack said.

“Oh well, my boyfriend is away and the house was giving me the creeps.” I said sipping away.

“Oh, Alex never said anything about a boyfriend” he grinned.

“Oh he didn’t?” I said turning to face him.

“Hey its your secret to tell, not mine.”

“Oh it’s a secret?” Zach asked.

“Not really, its just that I don’t go around advertising it.” I laughed.

“She’s dating Brendon Urie, the lead singer of Panic At The Disco” Alex chimed in.

“Hey, what happened to it being my secret?”

“It was going to come out sooner or later.” He said.

“Wow. Brendon Urie” Jack said. “Oh, he’s on tour that’s why he’s away.”

“Umm yeah. So Alex said you guys didn’t have a name for your band yet?” I said changing the subject.

“Nah not yet but when we do, it will be great!” Rian said.

“Nice. Good it’s freezing” I said shivering.

“I’ll grab you one of my hoodies” Alex said racing inside.

“He has like a million.” Zach laughed. “And I’m not exaggerating.” Alex came back with a purple and white stripped hoodie which look awesome. As I was putting my left arm in, I accidentally hit Jack and he lost his balance and fell into the pool.

“Oh my god!! Jack I’m so sorry.” I said trying not to laugh. The guys were all laughing their heads off.

“That’s cool. Give me a hand out.” He said offering his hand. I grabbed it and started to pull him up but he pulled he down into the pool with him. I landed with a scream.

“Jack as if you would do that” I said laughing.

“Jack! That was my favourite hoodie!” Alex said realizing I was wearing his hoodie.

“What? No, I’ll help you out, no “Jack you ruined her jeans”, just that it was your favourite hoodie” I joked.

“Oh come on. Its obvious your not hurt” he laughed. For that I splashed him and Jack joined in. By the time we were finished he was soaked.

“You might as well just get in now” I said laughing.

“Fine, but Rian your coming in with me” he laughed and grabbed Rian by the waist and throw him in first and jumped in. Zach didn’t want to be the odd one out so he jumped in by himself. We all ended up having a massive water fight but I was starting to get really cold.

“Caite, your lips are turning blue. They match jeans.” Alex said putting his arms around me. “God, your freezing.”

“I...I think it...its time t...t...to get out.” I said shivering.

“I think you should have a nice hot shower?” Jack offered as he helped me out.

“Go...Good idea.”

 

Jack guided me to the bathroom which had a massive full length mirror, a massive bath tub and a huge shower. I grabbed my bag from Alex’s room and had a long hot shower. I heard a knock on the door just as I was getting out.

“I’ll be two seconds.” I said running to get a towel.

“Haha. Don’t worry, no rush. I actually just wanted to see if you are still alive. You’ve been in there for nearly an hour” he laughed.

“Oh really? Well, I wont be too much longer” I said going through me bag. “Hey Alex?”

“Yeah?”

“I only have my pjs left, is it cool if I wear them?” I laughed.

“Haha, of course. But if you want you can wear some of my jeans?” he offered.

“Hello! I have hips! But can I borrow another one of your hoodies? I promise I won’t ruin this one.”

“Yeah for sure. Can you hurry though? Jack’s being really annoying and it’s pissing me off.” He laughed.

I chucked on my white pjs bottoms and my black panic shirt. I threw my hair up into a bun and chucked my stuff back into Alex’s room, grabbing one of his hoodies while I was there. I went out to the pool but they weren’t there.

“Guys?” I shouted walking back into the house.

“Caite, we’re in the kitchen” I heard Rian yell out.

“Which would be where?” I said walking towards the noises.

“ROAR!” Jack yelled jumping in front of me. Of course I screamed but then started laughing.

“That wasn’t funny” I laughed.

“Well you’re laughing” he said grabbing my hand. He pulled me into the kitchen were everybody was eating. It looked like spaghetti.

“Did you want some?” Alex offered.

“Don’t you remember me telling you I’m a vego?”

“Oh shit, that’s right. Well help yourself to anything you want” he said pointing behind him.

“I’m fine thanks.”

“You’re a veggie?” Zach asked shocked. “How can you survive without meat?”

“Haha, yes I’m a veggie. Well you can eat other things. It’s not a big deal.” I said sitting on one of the stools. “So, do I get to hear one of your songs or maybe even more?”

“If you really want but to be honest, we aren’t that good. It’s all Jack’s fault really” Rian said with a smile.

‘Hey, as if! I’m like the reason we are great.” Jack said jumping up.

“Come on kiddies, play nice. Tell you what, you play for me and I’ll tell you if you suck or not, for real.” I said with a grin on my face.

“Sounds like a plan. I’ll show you where we play while the guys finish eating.” Again, he grabbed my hand and ran into the garage.

“Wow, great equipment but in the garage?” I laughed.

“Well we all can’t have our own private studios like Panic” he said.

“Ouch, low blow.” I replied picking up a black and white stripped electric. I started to play the start of The Phrase That Pays from The Academy Is... .

“Wow, your good.” Jack said sitting on the floor and just watching me. I laughed and started to sing.

“My eyes can’t believe what they have seen. In the corner of your room you’ve stockpiled millions of my memories. Oh doctor doctor, I must have gotten sick somehow. I’m going to ask you a series of questions and I want them answered on the spot right now.” Then all the guys came out.

“Oh Caite. I thought jack was playing. You never told me you play the guitar let alone sing.” Alex said joining Jack on the floor.

“Haha. Well actually I fake the guitar and I talk, I don’t sing.” I said putting the guitar down.

“So, I guess that means it’s our turn then.” Rian said sitting at the drum kit.

“Sure is.” I sat down where Jack and Alex were sitting before.

“Ok, so I think we should start off with That Girl’s A Straight-Up Hustler.” Alex said picking up the guitar I was just playing.

“Sounds good” Jack said while nodding. Before any singing started at all, I was tapping my foot along.

“Lip stick has a why of leaving more than just a mark on my sheets. Colouring my senses cherry-red for at least a week. Kisses under starry night skies talked about in song. We play along so bitter sweet by our design. I’m sick and tired of writing songs about you. This is it, this is the end. Take off your make up and put down your camera. Choke on the drama that makes me want to tear up the pictures the pages you saved, creating a life of trends and make believe.” Alex was unbelievable, and the others were great. I was moving my head with the beat and was sad once they finished.

“Oh my god! Guys that was amazing.” I said with a massive smile on my face. I looked at Alex and as soon as I had finished what I was saying his face lit up. It made me laugh.

“Thanks Caite” Jack said. “So you want to hear more?”

“Hell yeah!” I said sitting back down.

“Oh Alex, we have to play coffee shop soundtrack for her.” Zach smiled.

“Sure.”

“Get ready to have your socks rocked off.” Jack said seriously.

“Should I write myself out of the history books and mark a place in time for every chance you took. Don’t get me wrong I know you’ve got your life in place. I’ve yet to take the hint. Some day I’m sure I’ll get the picture and stop waiting up. When it all comes down to a sunrise on the east side, will you be there to carry home the remains of my wasted youth. This wasted time on you has left me shaking in waiting, shaking in waiting for something more.” I couldn’t stop looking at Alex and the way he lit up when he was singing. I liked this song better than the other one mostly because of the lyrics. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and started filming them. They realized what I was doing so they let loose and went crazy. I started dancing around and shaking my head, and by the end of it, my hair had come out and I was out of breath.

“I can’t believe you guys haven’t been signed yet. You’re amazing.” I said sitting down on the couch. I was squashed by Jack who jumped on me trying to hug me.

“Pile on Caite!” he yelled and the guys came running over and jumped on me.

“Can’t breath” I struggled to say. They all moved off me and I ended up sitting between Alex and Jack.

“So we were really that good?” Rian asked.

“Oh my god, you were better than good, you guys were fantastic!” I smiled.

“So who was the best?” Zach asked puffing out his chest.

“How can I choose between a drummer who never misses a beat, a bassist who has great rhythm, a guitarist who has awesome hair and a singer who makes my heart flutter.” I laughed. I looked at my watch. “God guys, it’s like 1am already and me and Alex both have work in 7 hours. I need some sleep.”

“Oh that’s right, I have work tomorrow.” He said getting to his feet. He offered me his hand and helped me get up.

“I’ll be off to bed now.” I said following Alex.

“I’ll be back in 10mins guys, I just have to show Caite where she is sleeping.” We walked into Alex’s room and he threw everything off the bed onto the floor.

“You can sleep here tonight” he said patting the bed.

“Where are you sleeping?”

“I’ll bring the mattress in.” I laid on his comfy bed and snuggled under the covers.

“Hey Caite, can I ask you something?”

“Yeah Alex, anything you like.” I patted the bed next to me but he just turned around.

“When you said I make your heart flutter, what did you mean?” he looked very serious.

“Anything but that.” I moaned pulling the covers over my head.

“Come on Caite, tell me.” He said seriously. He almost sounded as if he was going to cry.

“Alex come on. It’s to complicated and I haven’t even, I haven’t... let’s leave that alone.” I said still under the covers. I was waiting for him to say something but he just got up and left. As soon as the door closed I had a tears running down my face. I was so confused about this situation. On one side, I loved Brendon, he loved me, he made me happy, and I would never ever want to hurt him, but on the other hand, I had this weird thing with Alex, he made me laugh and always knew how to make me smile and he was my best guy friend. By now, I was full on crying. The door opened and I pulled the covers down to see who it was, and it my surprise it was Jack.

 

“Hey there Caite. Can I come in?” He pleaded.

“Yeah of course Jack.” He came and laid next to me. There was a long silence before anyone said anything.

“What’s going on?” he asked quietly.

“Just big hairy boy issues.” I laughed trying to lighten up the mood.

“You wanna talk about them?” he offered.

“Jack, if I do, I’ll just end up crying again.”

“You can cry on my shoulder if you want. It hasn’t been used in a while so it might be a bit rusty but I’m sure it will help.”

“Haha, jack you weirdo. So you want to know what’s going on aye.”

“Only if you want to talk about it.”

“Well, ok where do I start.”

“How about from the beginning?”

 

From there, I told Jack the whole story about how I met Brendon and we practically fell in love on the spot, and how I moved over here with him even though I’d only known him for a couple of weeks. I told him how much I loved and cared for him and vice versa too and how I would never want to hurt him. But then I started telling him how confused I was about how I was having feelings for Alex as well, and how when ever I saw him, my heart would jump up to my throat, how he made me feel and how he’s eyes would light up when he saw me. By the time I was finished, my head was in Jack’s lap and he was stroking my hair as I tried to calm down. I feel asleep like that.
