Shontelle's Blog: Blowin' Up (March 18, 2009)

I know I'm waaaayyyy behind with the blog but I'm back! Soooo much has gone down since the last time I checked in with you guys.

Here's what has happened in my life since we last chatted: OBAMA became President (proud to have my song "Battle Cry" on his Yes We Can compilation album). I went to the Confessions of A Shopaholic premiere in NYC (my new single featuring Akon "Stuck With Each Other" is the title track from the movie and is featured both in the movie and on the soundtrack. We wrapped up the New Kids on the Block tour in the UK. I went to my first Grammys...

The Grammys were amazing but spoiled for me by the Rihanna/Chris Brown incident because she is a friend, and I love her. I was so sad and disappointed about the entire series of events. I attended a huge cosmetics convention where I represented VEET (I'm the new face...and LEGS of that brand). I worked with Do Something (dosomething.org) on some very important PSAs. I enjoyed many New York Fashion Week shows and parties.

I performed at an amazing charity event with Conde Nast Publications where celebs and regular folks alike donated dresses for girls who cannot afford to buy nice dresses for their proms and some of the dresses were auctioned to help raise funds towards this as well.

I taped a reality show for Hearst Publications that's similar to Project Runway. Guess what! I am the host of the show! Three students were selected from the High School of Fashion and Design in NYC to compete to design a dress for Kat DeLuna -- it was a surprise for them! Kat will wear the winning design on the red carpet of Universal Motown Records' Annual Ultimate Prom! I had such a blast meeting the three girls and mentoring them. Check my Kyte TV player for a short update from myself and Kat. I'll keep you guys posted about when the show will air and all the deets! It's so fab! FASHION FASHION FASHION ROCKS!!!

I went back to London for a photoshoot and to tape the UK's biggest music show on Channel 4, The Album Chart Show. I performed an acoustic version of "T-Shirt," hosted a Top 50 countdown and also performed "Stuck With Each Other" with Akon and his band! It was amazing!

I'm about to head to LA to shoot my third music video ("Battle Cry"). Do you have any cool ideas? Hit me on Twitter, Myspace or Facebook and let me know what you think!

Also, if you want updates on what's going on with me from day to day make sure you FOLLOW me on TWITTER and stay tuned to my KYTE TV channel for LIVE video and chats. Shontelle's Blog: Confessions of a Pop Star (Jan 20, 2009)

I recently received the most incredible news from my team. "Shontelle! You're not going to believe this, but you have just been confirmed to open for NKOTB for their European tour!" "OMG! Are you serious?" "Yes! Yes! This is gonna be so good for you, girl!" "Thank you, thank you, thank you guys! I'm so excited! Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh-oh-oh, the right stuff!" "Hahahahaha. Yes!" How cool is that news? Then, just as I thought things couldn't be better,

I got another call that confirmed a possibility we had been told of about a week ago. It had been finalized that I would be doing a Dianne Warren/Rodney Jerkins (DarkChild) record for the soundtrack of the upcoming and highly anticipated movie Confessions of a Shopaholic. Am I in heaven? Then it gets better! The song "Stuck with Each Other" also features Akon and will be a major song in the movie! I'm just so happy. I have wanted to work with Disney, Diane Warren, DarkChild AND Akon for sooooo long! And they have all been crossed off my checklist in one go! This is so great. I'm look really looking forward to all of this. Just days later, I arrived in Barbados, my beautiful home in the sun.

I was so happy to see my family. I missed them so much. I spent my days shopping for gifts with my family, catching up with my friends and bodyboarding, and chillin' on the beach. I missed my dogs so much so it was great to be able to feel their slobber all over me again. Ha! My best buddies. There is no love like a dog's love. Is that weird? Hahaha! I also hit up a few parties and went to a big fancy bash to celebrate NYE. I recorded "Stuck with Each Other" while I was in Barbados, too. See, the work never stops -- not even when you're supposed to be on vacation! Anyways, I was more than happy to do it.

Did I say how excited I am about this? My trip home was way too short because in no time I was back on a plane to NY, where I had one day to rest and pack to fly to L.A. to shoot the video for the new SHONKON song. We shot it at Lisa Rinna's store, Belle Gray. What a gorgeous store! I can't wait for you guys to see how the vid came out. I posted a video on my MySpace with some behind-the-scenes footage. There are also a bunch of photos from the shoot and more exclusive behind the scenes material on shontelleonline.com. We're so excited about Confessions of a Shopaholic and "Stuck with Each Other."

I'll be posting it on MySpace soon, so you guys can check it out. Let me know what you think! Well, I gotta go pack now. I'm flying to the UK with NKOTB tomorrow! Stay tuned next blog for an update on the tour with me and the guys.

Hugs and kisses and 'nuff love until next time,

- Shon

This Is True (Lyrics)

You know nothing come easy, you gotta try real real hard, I tried hard...but I guess I
gotta try harder.

[Chorus (Akon)]

I try so hard can't seem to get away from misery
man I try so hard
will always be a victim of these streets
it aint my fault cuz I...
tried to get away but trouble follows me
and still I try so hard
hoping one day you'll come and rescue me
but until then, I'll be posted up right here in sleet hail snow
but until then...
I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough

[Verse 1 (Krayzie Bone)]

First let me explain that I'm just a black man
and I come from the darkside, so I'm havin a hard time stayin on track man my mind be
racin, and I don't even know what I'm chasin' yet I been in and out of relationships, I'm
startin to see thats it's me where the complications at, but I'm layin back prayin that,
you can't have piece of mind of me, I thought I was right but really I'm wrong, in the end
I was to blind to see, I was in the fast lane chasin' my dream, and then it seem when the
fame and cash came they just got me going craaazy lately, lately, lately I beed so faded
tryin to erase it but I cant cuz the drama just goes greater and I been in so many
collisions from puttin shit up till later

[Chorus (Akon)]

I try so hard
can't seem to get away from misery
man I try so hard
will always be a victim of these streets
it aint my fault cuz I...
tried to get away but trouble follows me
and still I try so hard
hoping one day you'll come and rescue me
but until then, I'll be posted up right here in sleet hail snow
but until then...
I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough

[Verse 2 (Layzie Bone)]

It's like I'm taking 5 steps forward and 10 steps back, tryin to get ahead of the game,
but I can't seem to get it on track, and I keep running away from the ones that say they
love me the most how could I create the distance when it's suppose to be close and uh, I
just don't know but I be out here fighting demons and, it's like a curse that I can't shake
this part of Cleveland and lord, would you help me? and stop this pain I keep inflicting on
my family hustlin gamblin, trickin and scammin scrambling and losing sight of what I'm
suppose to be handlin, it's hard to manage cuz everyday's a challenge and man I'm slippin
can't lose my balance I'm tryin not to panic

[Chorus (Akon)]

I try so hard
can't seem to get away from misery
man I try so hard
will always be a victim of these streets
it aint my fault cuz I...
tried to get away but trouble follows me
and still I try so hard
hoping one day you'll come and rescue me
but until then, I'll be posted up right here in sleet hail snow
but until then...
I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough

[Verse 3 (Wish Bone)]

I see thangs won't change I'm stuck in the game as soon as I get out it keeps pullin me
back mayne got me doin' dirty dirt so used to this hustlin' money that I don't understand
how 9 to 5 work studied on the streets, hustlers know what I mean hustlers ballin in force
I'm tryna make that major league so we never leave never, til' the sun came up gotta get it
nope no leavin no rush today games they play gotta go hard to get what u put in if you fall
off then it's all on you gotta watch what you sign to try so hard but I won't play the fool

[Chorus (Akon)]

I try so hard
can't seem to get away from misery
man I try so hard
will always be a victim of these streets
it aint my fault cuz I...
tried to get away but trouble follows me
and still I try so hard
hoping one day you'll come and rescue me
but until then, I'll be posted up right here in sleet hail snow
but until then...
I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough

The 2008 Much Music Video Awards

Alright. So it's been exactly one week since the awards show and I haven't blogged about it. I couldn't face the task of all the typing I would have to do LOL so here goes...

oh and a note: All of the photographs and videos on this blog were taken by me or someone (for the one's with me in them) took them for me with my camera.

The 2008 Much Music Video Awards

My friend slept over the night before so it would be easier for her. We headed downtown at around 1pm and got something to eat at the Eaton's Centre. After that we walked down Queen Street to see if there were any people lining up for the stages yet. Unfortunately, I never noticed the line till much later lolz. We went to a nearby park and sat and talked for a while. Then we headed back to go wait. When we finally noticed the line-up it had gone down one side of the block already so we were at the end probably about 150-200th in line.

The Blackberry mascot lol

The line-up for the gates to the main stage at the MMVA's

A few weird things happened I guess during our wait. There was one guy who was walking up and down the line getting people to write anything they wanted all over his arms, neck and chest with permanent marker (the idiot LOL) and I wrote ant on his arm (don't ask why) it was pretty funny. Another guy decided to stick promotional band/album stickers all over his body and have people autograph them. That was also weird. Especially since he wasn't exactly er...thin...lol

So we were waiting for hours just listening to other people's conversations when this girl ran up to her friend and was like "OMG Girlicious are entering the building in the back! eek!" So I ran around before the huge crowd started. I ended up meeting and getting a picture with Christina, which was really cool. She looked very tired. Robin Antin was also there (of course lol)

So after many hours of waiting, it started to rain...I noticed the dark storm clouds before when we were at the mall so I bought a new umbrella. It rained pretty hard for a while and my friend got soaked cause she was only thinking about getting her hot dog lolz. She was very hungry. They eventually started to get the line moving by taking us in bunches of like 30 and letting us go to the stages.

People began saying that the security was taking our umbrellas away and I couldn't believe that. Seriously. When it was my turn to go to the stages, the lady really rudely grabbed the umbrella from me before I could even close it! Asshole...they said that they didn't want anyone getting hurt, but that is the biggest load of shit I have ever heard. They took them away because they wanted the crowd at the main stage to look perfect for the TV. You'll understand why I'm so pissed about it after reading the next bunch of sentences. We waited for 2 hours right in the front rows of the main stage and it started to rain. By rain, I mean HARD. It completely poured on us for two full hours and we got totally drenched all the way through. There was so much rain on the ground that there were large puddles and my nice Ed Hardy shoes got full of water and will never look the same. After an hour of rain they finally began to pass a few garbage bags to people in the crowd, but it didn't really help at all. My friend and I managed to grab a used one but it had a hole in it. The only thing I was worried about by then was my digital camera. That thing is very important to me. It somehow managed to stay completely dry even after I got soaked. Thank god for the $40 leather case I bought for it or it wouldn't be ok right now. It got so bad that some people were literally ducking to the ground sceaming trying to not get wet. My blue hair dye started running down my neck and face. It was pretty bad but it eventually stopped right before the damn show started. So we were wet all night...and it kept starting and stopping for the rest of the night.

The rain-filled sky at the 2008 MMVA's

Before the show started, Trevor Boris, the comedian who I mentioned a few blogs back, came out to warm the crowd up.

Trevor Boris at the 2008 MMVA's

So he does some jokes, right? And then he's like "So you guys were lined up around the block for wristbands the night before and I stumbled out of a club drunk at 1 in the morning and started talking to some of you about getting you a pizza and one of you actually filmed it and put it on Facebook." so no one knew what he was talking except me and I jumped up and down and screamed at the top of my lungs "THAT WAS MEEEE! OMG AHHH" lmao! Here's the vid:

So the show itself was pretty cool. I love things live. I love being there in the crowd jumping up and down and singing horribly off key cause everyone is singing all at once off lmao. My friend couldn't see unfortunately cause she's not too tall. The coolest performance of the night was Rihanna, hands down. Everyone was really waiting for that because it was the first time she's performed her 1 hit "Take A Bow" live on Television. She came up to us in the beginning it was really cool.

Flo Rida swung down onto the middle of the stage from the roof of the Much Music building wearing a harness that was attached to some wire thingy. It was so cool! I saw what I thought was a harness earlier in the day but thought no one would try it cause it looked so dangerous. Speaking of Dangerous, lolz, Akon flew up here to sing the chorous in the performance of Kardinal Offishal's song Dangerous. I thought he sounded good until I watched it on TV next day and realized that what we were hearing was him singing really horribly to a backtrack, but the backtrack was on way higher so he sounded same as album LMAO! Oh and when Flor Rida sung his hit "Low" he kinda really sucked live but Simple Plan added background rock to the song which kindof saved it. It was cool.

Dangerous - Kardinal Offishal ft. Akon - LIVE @ 2008 MMVA's

Simple Plan won "Favourite Canadian Group" and I snapped this touching pic.

Simple Plan winning

Simple Plan - When I'm Gone - LIVE @ 2008 MMVA's

So it was really cool. I got totally into it and was singing along to like every song. HEDLEY were so awesome! I love them they're awesome. I don't know how many people outside of Canada know who they are or their music, but they're the best Canadian band in my opinion. Their music kicks Simple Plan and Sum41 and everyone elses asses lmao.

Hedley - Never Too Late - LIVE @ 2008 MMVA's

We were so wet that we left after Rihanna's performance. So I missed New Kids On The Block. But...I watched their performance on YouTube just today and they kinda sucked really bad live...didn't expect it...oh well lolz. So my shorts had gotten soaked, right? Well instead of getting tighter, they got larger so that they were literally falling off of me. It was insane. I had to walk all the way down the street and across the busy intersection holding my shorts up like a diaper. It was really bad lmao! And when I went to get my umbrella back (cuz I had just spent $12 damn on it!) I found everyone's umbrella's thrown in a pile of garbage on the dirty street. Some were even broken so it's a good thing mine wasn't. So yah that's about it. Oh and yeh the vids I got have helped my YouTube channel become the 41 Most Viewed (This Week) in Canada. wootwoot! That's great since my other one got deleted which really pissed me off...I had lots of views and subscribers on my old account and that took so long to achieve...ARG oh well lol...peace out! ;D
