Akon

Akon's style has been described as a hybrid between West African vocals and southern beats. This makes sense by looking at the singer-rapper's childhood. Born in St. Louis and raised in Senegal until he was seven, Akon would discover hip-hop when his family finally settled in New Jersey. It was in Jersey where he would also discover a life of crime which led to a prison sentence during his teens but inspired his chart-topping 2006 album Konvicted.
