Once Upon A Time There Was The Story Of Two Legendary Con Men "The Brothers Bloom"
The Brothers Bloom tells a story about two con men, legendary con men, also brothers (Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo), whom conquer one con after another until their cons can no longer create a story with a happy ending. At least not a romantic happy ending that either brother or either con man is able to write, until they remove themselves from the plan as it has been plotted and perceived to pan out in each of their heads. Rian Johnson (writer, director) of The Brothers Bloom has created a thrilling, adventurous, hilarious film that will touch everyone in a magical fairytale sort-of-way.
For those of you that consider yourself artistic, carefree, always up for the challenge and not quite the type to make plans; well, you will identify well with the character of Peneolope played beyond perfectly by Rachel Weisz. Penelope is awkward, kind of dorky, extremely wealthy, seeking for that "something" and head to toe gorgeous. But, Penelope has the right idea when she notices Bloom is constipated in the soul and he does not let his feelings and his mind run free to write his own life.

If you tend to find yourself leading the group, always creating an exact itinerary before you dive into something, convincing your friends to go somewhere even when deep down you know its not because they will have fun, but you will; well, you might just see a little bit of your personality in Stephen played brilliantly by Mark Ruffalo. Stephen is the big brother con man, who at times you really don't like, but then you remember he is written to be the bad guy, so underneath there just might be some good intentions.

Are you intrigued by the way someone looks at you? Are you eroused from the simple touch of a hand to your knee? Do you ever find yourself pondering why the internet is called the internet? When someone is super quiet, stand-offish and acts practically suspect are you interested in getting to know them more? Bang Bang aka Yuengling played by Rinko Kikuchi is your girl. Silent, but deadly - no not the fart, but the girl (pictured below). Bang Bang will make you laugh, laugh and then realize ...

Do you ever feel bad when you see a poor old woman sitting by herself on a bench in park looking helpless, because even her gold cane can't help her stand up? Do you believe that there is always more then what you are experiencing currently in life? Do you find yourself often giving in to the offerings of others, only because you can't come up with a better idea yourself? If so then you will identify well with Bloom played by Adrien Brody. Just say no and walk away. That's what you want Bloom to do when his older brother Stephen is manipualting Bloom into yet another con.

The thing about The Brothers Bloom, is that you don't really have to have that one character you see a bit of yourself in to make the story feel believable and real. The film is so well written and composed, that it practically creates a theatrical experience in which you (the viewer) are as essential to the development of the plot, as the 4 main characters casted in the film.

I feel as if everyone (myself included) goes to the movies, we watch this amazing film, we walk out of the theatre talking about how we felt like so-and-so was so much like me when I did this and when I went there, etc etc. STOP. Wake up! Open your eyes. The Brothers Bloom is not about the individual, rather it is about the life and purpose of the individual in a world with family and friends. Discover your identity as it relates to others. Stephen, Penelope, Bloom and Bang Bang will get you hooked on the gateway drug that will lead you into a world of un-named, un-categorized, un-identifiable feelings and experiences.
If my words are to theoretical and loddy-doddy for you, then let me spell it out. I love The Brothers Bloom. Not only have I already seen it twice, but I will help you pick dimes and nickles off the streets of your hometown, if that is what it takes to get you to go to see this movie in theatres May 29th.
