The Brothers Bloom

Ok, I just watched The Brothers Bloom. Phenomenal movie. One of my best friends told me I needed to see it. Lo and behold, it made my night. The story begins with two brothers on their last con job as Bloom (Adrien Brody) wants out of the game. Stephen (Mark Ruffalo agrees); they travel to New Jersey for Bloom to see his final mark, the eccentric Penelope (Rachel Weisz). Along with BangBang (Rinko Kikuchi), their silent explosives expert from Japan, they set out on their greatest con yet. The end is kind of sad, but all in all it was a great movie. Funny, quirky, and definitely a Saturday-night-at-home film.

The film isn't confined to a great story, though. Basically, the cinematography rules. Some of the shots are just amazing. My brother got annoyed every time I paused the movie to point out why it was great. Little brothers just don't get it.

Some wide angle action here.

No words for how amazing this is.

And where do I even begin with the clothes? I'll start with BangBang. Damnnn, does she have a wardrobe. Rinko Kikuchi, I envy you.

Ok, bowler hat + red leather gloves + white fur coat = perfection. Her red lipstick kills it. Her wardrobe contains Chanel, YSL, Prada, and Balenciaga among other brands.

Chanel gradient sunglasses and menswear. Yum.

This outfit is too great for words. Not streetwear, but it definitely fits her character.

Now for Penelope's wardrobe. Goodness, where do I begin?

She wears this coat in Prague, and I am entirely too jealous of it.

Love this shot, love her hat and the coat. Basically this image is flawless in reality and in theory. She also wears this great floppy bucket hat later in the film, but I couldn't find any pictures.

Oh, and for anyone else who loves Adrien Brody:

Once Upon A Time There Was The Story Of Two Legendary Con Men "The Brothers Bloom"

The Brothers Bloom tells a story about two con men, legendary con men, also brothers (Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo), whom conquer one con after another until their cons can no longer create a story with a happy ending. At least not a romantic happy ending that either brother or either con man is able to write, until they remove themselves from the plan as it has been plotted and perceived to pan out in each of their heads. Rian Johnson (writer, director) of The Brothers Bloom has created a thrilling, adventurous, hilarious film that will touch everyone in a magical fairytale sort-of-way. Believe me ...

so...once there was this girl and she had this job....

I'm starting to doubt my career decisions. It's 5:40pm. It's a Tuesday. I'm essentially shackled to my desk with nothing to do...yet I can not leave.
All I want to do is leave, drive 10 minutes, purchase Darjeerling Limited, swoon over Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and the amazingess that is the brain of Wes Anderson...and maybe watching American Idol later.
Is that too much to ask?

But NO. Dave heard me saying I couldn't wait to pick up a copy of the movie and goes "oh..change of plans we're working late now."

fuck.
