My Favourite...
UK music.
So I figured that there isn't so much in the way of UK bands that are known outside of Europe and more than likely Australia and possibly Asia. So I figured why not share some of my favourite UK music both past and present.
Okay so to start with we have the lovely Fightstar. The band started as a side project for lead vocalist Charlie during his days as a member of the band Busted, and when Busted spilt became his full time band. They began playing venues and people were cynical at first, after all Charlie had come from pop-roots and it took a while for them to shake of that stigma, but they succeeded and after the release of their debut album "Grand Unification" they parted ways with their major record label over a dispute involving the direction the band should go in, not happy with what they label wanted they left, thankfully they found a smaller independant label willing to take them on and later released their second album "One Day Son This Will All be Yours".
Mcfly. Guilty pleasure? Sure thing. They make catchy as a cold songs. Having made a name for themselves here they tried their hand in the USA, and after appearing in a film alongside Lindsay Lohan [Just My Luck], they managed to round up a few fans from across the pond, but still haven't had any major success over there yet. Selling out shows across the UK they continue to maintain their success. Their Greatest Hits album was released last year [07] and there is talk that they will be parting with their label and moving to an independant or perhaps going it alone so as to concentrate on making the music their way and making music they like, either way its going to be catchy and everyone is going to love it.
Ant & Dec [aka PJ & Duncan]. Popstars turned TV presenters, they started off acting in the early 90's on a program called 'Byker Grove' which was set in Newcastle. They then moved on to music and had a few years of success, touring and having hit singles, before moving on to TV. Starting with the Ant & Dec show, they then moved on to shows such as SMTV Live and CDUK, as well as hosting Pop Idol. They are now hosting Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Take Away and Britains Got Talent. They also had their own film - Alien Autopsy.
a1. [yes i do go on about them] They are possibly the one that I have spent the most on, magazines, travelling to shows and to London to see them. They started off as your a-typical boyband, matching clothing, dance routines, cheesy songs, but as they went on they matured, their second album "The A-List" was R&B tinted pop, with a hint of the cheese from their debut album "Here We Come" still present. It wasn't until their 3rd album "Make It Good" that they silenced the critics, moving on to playing instruments instead of dancing, they pulled off the move, being trained musicians they were able to show those who doubted their talents what they could do. Paul Marazzi left the band and a few months later the other 3 Ben Adams, Christian Ingebrigtsen and Mark Read decided to call time on their blossoming career and got on hiatus, which they are still on to this day.
Busted. The original Mcfly [gets yelled at by people]. They were fun. They started off their career bringing something to the pop world that was unheard of. Boys that could play guitars orly? They had numerous hits, sang about Britney on their first album the self titled "Busted", as well as about time travel. Their second album "A Present For Everyone" saw the single "Crashed The Wedding" beat off the Madonna and Britney single to reach number 1. They also recorded the theme tune to the Thunderbirds movie. Sadly they split in 2005. James Bourne went and started playing with his band Son Of Dork, Matt Willis dabbled in a solo career but found TV presenting to be his calling after a stint doing I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. And Charlie Simpson found success with his band Fightstar.
Chumbawamba. A band that started out playing Anarcho-punk but who over a 25 year career play music ranging from world music and pop-influenced dance to acoustic folk music, they are generally influence but anarchist political stances and an irrelevant attitued to authority. One of their biggest selling singles and the one they are most known for is the song "Tubthumping" which when released was if I remember rightly sung pretty much everywhere by everyone.
Jamiroquai. The not so well known in the USA band. Their songs are amazing. They have hints of Jazz, funk, techno, dance, pop a bit of everything but it works. Notorious for his love of cars vocalist Jason Kay or JK is more known for being banned from driving or for his short temper which has led to him being in the press of fighting with the paparazzi more than for his music [Also famous for his hat wearing]. Their live shows are full of energy and they can deliver. They recorded the song for the movie Godzilla "Deeper Underground". They continue to amaze and sell out shows around the globe.
since its late I'm ending here
enjoy

Oh I love this journal so much, what I fantastic idea
I was one of the fightstar cynics at first but I've really got into them now!!
and Mcfly>busted all the way
I am now going to look up a1 on youtube and dance around like a moron whoop!!!!!
and i had trouble finding a1 stuff on youtube i couldnt find make it good so i had to make do with citm
fightstar grew on me definitely i was a bit meh not fussed but i gave them a listen and was pretty impressed, have you seen them live? they are incredible.
Maybe I'll just imagine it in my head then!!
I have not seen them live but everyone I know that has says there pretty good, I might have to go for myself! My brother was completely against fightstar at the begining but is a bit of a fan now although he can't watch their videos because he struggles to take charlies eyebrows seriously! and those were his actually words!!
my sister was against them too, but she saw them at leeds and was pretty impressed.
i went to see them [i had to go myself as no one wanted to go with me since they hate that music haha] and they opened with Dearcar and i swear i almost fell over, charlie came bounding on stage and just inhaled and screamed the words and all i could think was wow what lungs you have and omg thats just ever so slightly different hahaha, they do put on a great show though
I went to go see the Used on my own and I ended up talking to these 15 year old emo's in the queue and ended up answer all their used related questions (they have a new drummer? what's the lead singer called?) I ran away from them the minute I got inside!!
I am hoping my brother will change his mind about the Plain White t's when we see them at Give It A Name mainly so he shall quit mocking me about the fact I really like them, it's more than mildly annoying now!!
PWT's are great i've seen them twice now and they never fail to make you smile i sweat Tom is like the happiest frontman ever hahaha i really wanted to go to GIAN but sadly nope
are pwt's on the same day as 30 seconds to mars and cobra starship? i really wanted to go just for them mainly hahaha 30 seconds to mars are amazing too
They are playing the same day as the Cobra's but not 30 seconds to mars, I've never seen 30 seconds to mars before but I've heard that they are good live but it's very much the Jared Leto show. I've seen the Cobra's live twice and am so excited to see them again, they are so good live!
It sucks that you can't go, I'll probably take loads of pictures since I'm sitting and therefore wont have lots of annoying teenages pushing me around!!
they were doing the student unions last year when i started my first year at uni - apparently they were still doing their backflipping and bodyshaking - i was gutted i missed it, but i missed timmy mallet as well
so they might stillbe doing stuff, otherwise who knows haha
This is a total walk down musical memory lane, I had forgotten some of these bands existed
off to youtube again
i didn't even get to include the likes of northern line, boyzone, take that, OTT, steps, sclub 7, BBMak, etc
ace! i'm gutted i cant go see cobra on their tour in may
30stm are amazing live - i can totally see why people call it the jared leto show, but i didn't think it was, sure he's in the front because he's the frontman but tomo was making waves as well and so was the other guy whos name i forget and shannon was great - his drum kit is to die for.
but they know how to put on a show, my can he work a stage and his voice - wow just wow, he is amazing i think i have videos of the show uploaded here *ponders if i have or not*
I totally would have gone to the tour in may but it's right when all my final assignments have to be in plus I'm going to GIAN and then I'm going to see CIWWAF/boyslikegirls at the end of may so I could'nt afford it
I'm so excited now, it's like 3 weeks away!! I'll probably end up using all the space on my phone with photos and such because I pretty much like every band playing!! yay!!
boys like girls were good but idk i want really into them all that much
hahaha ace - i wish i could have gone =[
but the next one i'm at is mindless self indulgence and then nothing it seems sad times hahaha
boy like girls were pretty good but martin likes to say the word motherfucker a lot and I went with my dad (who is also coming with to ciwwaf gig) so therefore everytime he swore I inwardly cringed "oh god my father is standing behind me" which is always fun
I haven't really heard much by mindless self indulgence but I have heard good things about them
