edie sedgwick is here
on july 4, 2000, jay & i took a drive up into the small town of ballard, in the santa ynez valley ("sideways" country), to check out edie sedgwick's grave. she's the heiress, model, actress, and warhol "it" girl. a real icon of 1960s free-spiritedness.
in 1971, edie died of a drug overdose about 2 miles from where i now live.
'round summer 2000, jay had just finished reading jean stein's book, "edie: an american biography." we left a couple presents on her gravesite.
someone told me that her widower husband (michael post) still works at the u.s. post-office here in downtown santa barbara (i'm sure he's gotten lots of shit for that last name).
