Slightly Stoopid Detained at Canada/U.S. Border Over Marijuana Posession

Musicians pass through the Canada/U.S. border every day and occasionally have their van/bus searched for drugs, but what happens when you actually get caught? Slightly Stoopid learned the answer to that question the hard way.

"Border patrol agents detained us for seven hours with about seven to eight agents of wasted taxpayers' manpower," singer Miles Doughty revealed to Celeb Stoner (*Yes this is a real site*)."They were threatening us with intent to sell and distribute marijuana even though all they actually found was about a half ounce. And this was after they tore our whole bus apart and then made my guys put everything back together." (Note: The entire fiasco ended with the band having to pay a $3000 fine.)

Doughty goes on a tangent about the police system and how poorly they handled the incident, and marijuana related incidents in general ...

"This is just another example of glorified security guards using their power the wrong way. I was talking sh** because we're musicians and we smoke marijuana. I don't understand how they could mix that up with drug dealers. I guess they're not fans of music or they'd know that this is what we do. It just amazes me that they would waste this much time for marijuana. Maybe if they taxed it like alcohol and cigarettes, things would be easier, but then they wouldn't be able to waste billions of dollars of taxpayers' money on the supposed 'War on Drugs.' In this country you can do less time in jail for killing than getting busted with recreational drugs."

And Doughty ends his rant with the timelss arguement over the dangers of using marijuana ...

"I've been smoking weed for 17 years and it's never been a gateway drug or affected my life in a negative way. I will always promote the use of marijuana because I don't see it as something harmful. Alcohol and cigarettes kill people. Who dies from getting blazed? Answer: No one."

Now it's time for you to post your thoughts on the issue. C'mon ... be honest. In fact, I'll go first. I've never tried marijuana, even once, but I can say that for a few of my friends it did become a gateway drug because the thrill of being high started to dwindle and they wanted to replace it with something stronger. I think it depends on the individual and their personally (ie: obsessive, addictive).

Marijuana should be controlled by the same laws as alcohol.

It's ludicrous for the DEA to claim that the laws controlling each drug is based its potential for harm. If that were really true they'd hand marijuana out in pre-k.

No one has ever died from marijuana in all of recorded history. Marijuana doesn't kill brain cells or cause emphysema, cancer or heart disease. And its addictive qualities are somewhat less than caffeine.

Can anyone answer why we control marijuana with the policy that failed for alcohol rather than with the policy that succeeded? Does marijuana contain some unique characteristic that'll make prohibition work for it while it failed so miserably for alcohol??

Marijuana should be controlled by the *same laws* as alcohol.

What happened to the band is a complete and utter waste of taxpayers' money!

Marijuana does in fact kill brain cells and it leads you into other drugs. Someone doesn't just wake up one day and say oh hey I want to try coke! Most druggies started off with marijuana. Marijuana is the equivalent to smoking four packs of cigarettes so it is in fact bad for you.

"Marijuana is the equivalent to smoking four packs of cigarettes so it is in fact bad for you."

lol wrong. I don't smoke but I don't think it should be illegal and made to be such a big deal and the person is above is correct in the fact that people do not wake up and want coke one day, usually it starts at a club someone fabulous and glam offers it to you. Ew, never touched the stuff. Weed does kill brain cells though, I believe in everything in moderation, just like alcohol. Small doses sometimes, not all the time and not six bowls. If Americans knew how to have some self control maybe everyone would stop making a big deal.

i will never understand how people can honestly argue that the government should legalize something that is known to be harmful. stupid fucking burnouts.
R-dawg: 11/13/2008 8:06 PM
LOL the government legalized the two MOST HARMFUL drugs!!!! (Alcohol and tobacco products). Hundreds of thousands of people die from those two every year, and ZERO die from pot use. How can YOU say it should NOT be legalized? There are countless other drugs on the market that are "prescription" drugs that are significantly more dangerous than any marijuana derivative. And no it is not a "gateway drug," that is a bogus term that research has established. I've smoked marijuana for years and have never tried, nor wanted to try any other drug, and there are millions of people out there just like me. Perhaps decriminalizing, and regulating marijuana would save the sinking economy. If you can tax something that people are doing anyway, you make money instead of spending it on tearing apart Slightly Stoopid's van and chasing "bad guys".

"Stupid fucking burnouts".. Wow, stupid ignorant fucks. Look if you don't want to smoke, don't, more power to you. But to come here and preach ignorance is just disgusting. How about doing some of your own research and using your mind instead of blindly accepting all the crap that's been fed to you since DARE. I smoke pot and have for a few years, I kept a 3.6 grade average and I have a somewhat respectable image. Pot may lead to some people using heavier drugs however that is more dependent on the individuals own will power. And saying that smoking pot is equivalent to 4 packs a day... are you kidding? First of all pot is smoked in much smaller quantities than tobacco, where as a smoker may smoke 20 cigarettes (one pack) a day a pot smoker might smoke 3 joints. Also although pot is not good for the lungs (no smoke is) it is not nearly as harmful as cancer causing cigarettes. And one last point, it makes no sense for alcohol to be legal and marijuana illegal. I have seen too many people get sick, make fools of themselves, and a couple end up hospitalized thanks to alcohol. Whats the worst I've seen from weed? hmmm... people hanging out laughing at dumb stuff. So I guess what I'm saying is; you have a right to your own opinions and choices but before you go preaching to people, have some idea what you're talking about./rant

idiot. you must be a fucking burnout if you believe the shit you're saying.
i did my own research and i did not find a single good reason to legalize this nasty shit besides that "taxing it will save the economy" are you fucking serious? do you know what the FDA is? why would anyone think it should be okay to make something HARMFUL readily available? people always argue, oh what about alcohol? what about cigarettes? if we could feasibly make them illegal too, we would. but we can't INTRODUCE a dangerous substance to law-abiding america. that's INSANE. arguing for legalization makes you sound like an idiot and a loser. i don't give a fuck about your gpa or your fucking image. you're going to get lung cancer, and you're going to lose brain cells, and you're going to die. and i'm going to laugh!
john: 11/14/2008 9:24 AM
things that are harmful, are readily available, dumb ass, with i might add the blessings of the FDA, if it were not for the FDA and the crooks who represent
the FDA the major pharmacutical manufacturers would be out of buisness, lets
see, VIOXX, FEN-FEN, JUST TO NAME TWO, were given the okey doke by
the FDA, so the makers could recoupe their R & D MONEY. I know for a fact that many people have died as a result of taking these two approved drugs, so take your opinion and regard for the FDA and shove them up your ass. The pursuit of happiness is O.K. as long as it is alchohol or presription drugs, what it all boils down to is MONEY. No more, No less.
Brent: 11/14/2008 4:29 PM
Yes it is a gateway drug, but it all depends on your personality, like is says above. For example, if you are a smoker, and youget dull of the high that weed gives you yes it can lead to useing other drugs but only as your choice. And also "stupid fucking burnouts" this is a dumb ass thing to say, if you don't like weed like alot of people do then maybe you should reasearch the topic so you have something more creative and less offensive. Also i have been smokeing weed for many, many years and the effects are not acually that bad, the "munchies" are much less of a negative effect than a hangover. I believe the government won't legalize weed, and tax it like alchohol and cigarettes is beause they can't regulate it like they can these other two drugs, if the government is chargeing people for weed and there are other people that we could get it from for cheaper the government wouldn't be makeing that much money.

LEGALIZE
john: 11/15/2008 9:38 AM
another reason the government will not legalize canibis, it keeps the coffers of the state and local governments in the black, being from texas where the state is in the prison business, that is to say that, if you get locked up for canibis possesion, say in the county jail. the state collects money from the federal government for each day you are incarcerated. my point is that our prisons are full of non violent marijana users convicted of possesion over 4 ounces. this keeps the fucking lawyers and the respective courts in business. "IT'S BULLSHIT". if you are a "BIG SHOT" in your community and your kid gets busted for pot, there is always some lawyer and "ASSHOLE" judge thats willing to "SWEEP IT UNDER THE CARPET". There are two kinds of justice in this country, one for the RICH or connected, and one for the poor, who can't afford the right lawyer who knows the right judge that can make the charges disappear. just dig deep enough in your ass pocket, and presto, no more charges. IT'S SAD BUT TRUE, O.J. SIMPSON PROVED THAT!
Anonymous: 02/03/2009 6:12 PM
you are fucking retarted.
There are plenty of studies (by respected universities such as johns hopkins) which have shown that smoking weed does not cause cancer you ignorant fuck.
Why the fuck is alcohol and tobacco legal when the kill thousands of people each year but weed hasnt killed anyone.
The Absent-Minded Professor.: 02/25/2009 4:36 PM
Well, that's just terribly "stoopid".
ryco314: 04/27/2009 8:12 PM
the reason it should be legal is simple and most people i know agree with me if the law against a drug does way more damage to ur life then the drug itself then theres a big fuckin problem there. Are u serious that i should be a convicted felon because i might do cocaine or heroin retarded. And whoever says that marijuana will destroy your lungs they should look up what a vaporizer is. Also marijuana is so less addictive than the legal crap its not even funny, you can be so addicted to alchahol that quitting cold turkey can kill you you have to go to a inpatient rehab and be treated like a heroin addict. Ive been to rehab while on probation and quit with no problem and the whole time in rehab they never said anything about marijuana except its the "GATEWAY DRUG" all the counselors are ex-addicts and they knew that marijuana was a joke of a reason to be in rehab and other than drug testing me here and there more or less left me alone.
