Rob Cavallo Out; Producer for New Green Day Record Revealed!

After working with producer Rob Cavallo on Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod and American Idiot (the band produced Warning themselves), Green Day has decided to try something different and bring a new producer on board for their upcoming record.

In a recent interview on "Last Call With Carson Daly," brought to our attention by Green Day Authority, Garbage singer / actress Shirley Manson confirmed that Garbage drummer and producer Butch Vig (Against Me!, Jimmy Eat World) is currently working with the band on their seventh full-length.

Back in September, Absolutepunk reported the Vig rumor and also mentioned that Joe McGrath (AFI, Tiger Army) would be assisting on production (Currently this information has not been officially confirmed). This would be the second time McGrath has worked on a Green Day record as he produced both "Maria" and "Poprocks and Coke" off 2001's International Superhits.

There is still no release date for the new Green Day record, but you can absolutely expect it next year. Warner Brothers Records UK has created a new mailing list regarding the band and reads: Green Day are set to release a new album in 2009! This it's a long time off?  You don't have to wait that long, the fun's going to start sooner than you think.

Meanwhile, the band is up for the Best Act Ever award at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, going up against U2,
Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Tokio Hotel and Rick Astley.

Will Green Day hurt their career by leaving Cavallo to work with Vig or do you believe the band has made this decision for the right reasons and will deliver another fantastic record?

I think Cavallo was a great producer but don't think that the band will do worse without him. The band will be itself as always.

well... I don't know. Maybe it's a good thing that they are trying to do somthing a little bit different, I mean it's Green Day! I think the new album will be as good as all the other Green Day albums. That's just my opinion.

Butch Vig also produced AFI's Sing The Sorrow, one of my most favorite albums of all time and one of the most finely crafted pieces of music I've heard. I have no doubt he'll do fine work with Green Day.

Of course, I'm also of the opinion that you could just sit Billie Joe Armstrong down alone in corner with a six-pack, a portable tape deck and a guitar and he'd (eventually) turn out the next great masterpiece of modern punk rock.

Interesting how similar this news is to that posted on GDA, didn't see any source info though.

This looks completely swiped from the GREEN DAY AUTHORITY. I would think in your position, proper credit would be an important thing.

Preaching to the choir! Especially the guy who posted this piece. He thinks Green Day is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Which, coincidentally, he also believes Green Day invented.

They'll be RickRolled.
Actually, if you look at the current information, that's not very likely.

I just got RickRolled!
Is it sad that that song never gets old?
Espeially when Barrack Obama is singing it.
