The mtvU Woodie Awards 2008 took place last night in New York City and some of your favorite bands went home as winners, including a few of the underdogs!

The biggest award of the night went to none other than Paramore for 'Woodie of the Year', which should come as no surprise after the successful past two years they've had. Santogold, Lil Wayne, MGMT and Tokyo Police Club were all left to eat dirt.

Motion City Soundtrack may have stayed quiet in 2008, having only released an acoustic EP, but that didn't stop the Minnesota rockers from pwning the 'Best Video Woodie' award for the hysterical "It Had to Be You." Adele, Gnarles Barkley, Erykah Badu and Vampire Weekend just couldn't cut it!

The piano man himself, Andrew McMahon of Jack's Mannequin, took home the 'Good Woodie' award for his "Dear Jack Foundation" which helps raise money and awareness for cancer research. Everyone nomintated in this category (Eddie Vedder, Ludacris, Emmanuel Jal and Mary J Blige) should be considered winners for simply starting their organizations.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night came when newcomers There For Tomorrow beat out All Time Low, We The Kings, Lykke Li and Tyga for the 'Breaking Woodie' award. I'm sure huge things are going to happen for the Florida rockers in 2009 and this is just the beginning.
