Kerli = Bjork + Britney + Heart Shaped Box (and her Scream Awards performance totally rocked.)Up-and-coming Estonian pop-star Kerli performed her (soon-to-be-massive) hit song, "Walking On Air," in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 18th for the taping of Spike TV's 2008 Scream Awards. This little gothic Lolita provides us with a much-needed new blend of goth-infused trip-hop that tickles the spine and sends oxygen rushing to the brain - and she's cute as a little button! While the word "cute" may reek with discredit, don't be mislead - her dark, dreamy pop music deserves much more than a fighting chance.
![]() Kerli's Scream Awards performance was nothing short of massive sensory overload. It included stunning background projections of scenery and body parts, massive amounts of fake snow & glitter (I could've sworn I felt the temperature drop when snow started pumping into the amphitheater...), and interpretive back-up dancers wearing "creepy" white masks - with the volume at a brain-massaging decibel level. My thoughts: Bjork. Disagree? Take another listen - go watch the 'Walking on Air' video and then tell me you disagree. (As long as we're on the subject of videos, does the video for her song 'Love is Dead' remind anybody else of a certain Heart Shaped Box?). What it boils down to: her sound is pretty spectacular and her performance at the Scream Awards was utterly fantastic. Kerli is the next big pop sensation, mark my words. What did you think of the televised version of Kerli's Scream Awards performance? Did you love it or hate it? Do you hear any Bjork similarities, or is Kerli just another Britney wannabe? Whether you just can't decide or just can't get enough, check out the gallery of photos from Kerli's Scream 2008 performance that I posted earlier today, and read what she dished to Buzznet about trick-or-treating, The Exorcist, and her old frog costume. And don't forget to add Walking on Air and Kerli's other songs to your Buzznet music player. Click here for the highlights from the 2008 Scream Awards. Looking for newageamazon's live-blog?
