Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars, More Win Big at 2008 MTV EMAsApparently the joke is on all of us, as Rick Astley took home the 'Best Act Ever' award last night at the 15th annual MTV Europe Music Awards, beating out artists like Green Day and U2. Wait until you hear who else went home a winner!
![]() Photo Credit: Getty Images Host Katy Perry had to win something right? How embarrassing would that have been? Ms. Perry took home the award for 'New Act,' beating out both Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, among others. Tokio Hotel won the 'Headliner' award, Kanye West nabbed the 'Ultimate Urban' award and the 'Most Addictive Track' went to Pink for "So What."(Can you believe Pink beat "I Kissed a Girl?") Two artists, from two totaly different walks of life, took home two awards each. I'm talking about Britney Spears for 'Album of the Year' (Seriously? *scratches head*) and 'Act of 2008' (....) and 30 Seconds to Mars for both the 'Rock Out' award and 'Video Star' award. Who knew 30STM was still so popular in the U.K.? The EMA's took place on November 6 at Liverpool's Echo Arena and featured performances from Kid Rock, The Killers and more. Were you pleased with the EMA winners? Does the U.K.'s taste in music differ from the U.S. and elsewhere?

And who the hell cares about the U.K.? It was a Europe Music Awards....
if we weren't bombarded with american acts than mabye we would have >.>
Rick Astley and Tokio Hotel should not have been nominated in the same category as U2 and Green Day for Best Act Ever. No offense to fans of either but come on even you have to admit that Rick Astley is a one hit wonder and Tokio Hotel haven't been around long enough to be seriously considered in that category.
I agree with that Pink!'s song really is that addictive and I don't even really like her music.
And Birttany has really cleaned herself up, is she really the Best Act of 2008? Probably not but she does deserve some applause for pulling herself out of all the shit she was in
While 30 Seconds to Mars are no where near the top of my musical likes list they deserve congrats.
BUT RICK ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH GOD iam still angry about that
and now that we all know he cheated ...i just want to know who came at the second place in for that award ...coz who ever came at the second place is THE WINNER FOR SURE !!!!!!!!!!
and about Katy Perry !!! well SHE WOULD NOT HAVE A CHANCE IF SHE WERE NOMINATED AGAINST TH FOR SURE ^,.,^ .....they beat HER !!!
but Tokio Hotel's winning was so great ..coz omg they won against awesome bands !!!!!!!!!!!! WOW
I MEAN WE DID IT !!!!!
ARENT WE JUST GREAT ???
wow
now they are OFFICIAL GREAT band for sure ^^
THEY ARE GOING TO BE EVEN BETTER AND soon no one will stand in their way ^^
Seriously, there are BETTER Norwegian preformers than them.
-_- Tokio Hotel didn't deserve to win, they're not good live - The Cure should've won. I hope that Mike Oldfield gets an Ultimate Award sometime - he too, as "Macca" has done a lot for music. Who will ever forget "Moonlight Shadow"?
coz in case you didn't know..the UK is part of Europe
PLUS the awards were hosted in Liverpool, which is in the UK
so i think it matters quite a bit
Tokio hotel won because their a most famous band in Europe right know. This isn't American Award show so!!! We have different tast than the Americans. Linkin Park and Metallica aren't famous anymore in Europe. They didn't even have a gig here. Tokio hotel twice toured in Europe in this year. So, it isn't really a Surprise, you know....
"Tokio Hotel haven't been around long enough to be seriously considered in that category"
they have been arond since 2005, in fact they signed a record deal in 2003, they go tthere first nnumber 1 in 2005 with durch den monsun. JUst becuase they havent been around in the US or the UK long, theyve been around in europe for ages, remember it was the europe music awards not US awards.
Love THUKFAN x
I'm still shocked that "Erik og Kriss" preformed.
Seriously, there are BETTER Norwegian preformers than them.
