Weezer Promise Sixth Album Will Be Reminiscent of 'Pinkerton,' 'Blue Album'

Fans of Weezer's older material will be pleased to hear that the band's upcoming sixth album is said to have elements of their first two releases, the group has revealed.

"Great albums are culminations of the past with an eye to the future, and the Red Album has parts Blue Album, Pinkerton, and forges new territory with all four members taking turns singing lead," according to a new press release on the band. "The Red Album is the rarest of modern music combinations: being both immediate and having the quality of growing better upon each subsequent listen."

"Pork and Beans," the first single from The Red Album, has already stormed onto radio, and a video is on the way for next month. The song, which is streaming on the band's site, will be available digitally Tuesday. The Red Album hits stores, June 24, with a Deluxe Edition dropping the same day.

The Red Album is the follow-up to 2005's Make Believe and is the third self-titled Weezer record, following 1994's so-called Blue Album and 2001's so-called Green Album.

For years it has become the '"cool thing" to say that you enjoy Weezer's The Blue Album and Pinkerton way more than Weezer (2001), Maladroit (2002) and Make Believe (2005). Do you think a return to form of sorts will help make The Red Album a Weezer classic? Discuss in the comments below!

this makes me laugh because if i remember right, rivers was "embarrassed" by pinkerton, and hated it because it was so (commercially) unsuccessful. my favorite, personally.
