Jimmy Eat World Talk Fights; Touring With Paramore![]() Buzznet caught up with Jimmy Eat World at Bamboozle Left to discuss touring with Paramore, pirate ships and a past confrontation with someone in the mosh pit. Jimmy Eat World seem like a bunch of easy-going guys, but they can go on the attack if the situation presents itself. Bassist Rick Burch recalls a time when the band was performing at a hardcore show for a small crowd. It was at this show that a mosher knocked into the microphone stand that struck singer Jim Atkins, leaving him covered in his own blood. “Tom and I chased him down. You made him cry. You hurt his feelings real bad," Burch said referring to guitarist Tom Lindon. The band is currently on tour with Paramore and feels like that both their followings crossover into each other. “There’s definitely some people that are seeing us play for the first time that are fans of Paramore and there’s definitely people that are fans of ours seeing Paramore for the first time,” Atkins explained. Jimmy Eat World have toured the world many times over and have seen just about everything. So what could top the list of the most absurd thing they've even seen in a crowd while performing? “At, um, Reading Festival last year we were playing and there’s these two guys in this inflatable pirate ship and they were crowd surfing with swords. It was amazing,” Atkins explained. The band has kept the same four members since original bass player Mitch Porter left in 1995. What exactly is the glue that keeps them together? "Make sure you’re proud of your work. The other guys ex-girlfriend’s are off limits," Atkins said. "Don’t pick any a—holes to be in your band. That’s the key," drummer Zach Lind added in. "Just because a guy’s good at his instrument doesn’t mean he should be in your band." And in case you fashionistas were wondering how to get the Jimmy Eat World look: "A pair of jeans and a T-shirt and some shoes," says Lind.
