Ilan Rubin Officially Out of Lostprophets!

On Monday, Buzznet posted a story on Ilan Rubin, drummer of Lostprophets and the man behind The New Regime, becoming the touring drummer for Nine Inch Nails. Turns out, Rubin is actually leaving LP all together ...

"As of January that's [NIN] going to have to be my full time thing," Rubin recently revealed to NME."I know that I'm not just in to fill in for a couple of months. I'll be there for whatever needs to be done, and that's basically that's my new position. They're [LP] very supportive of me going because they knew it would be good for me. They're fans of NIN themselves so I can honestly say there's no hard feelings. I'll be able to leave on a positive note and remain friends with everybody."

Rubin confirmed that he, and his drum kit, will still appear on Lostprophets' upcoming third full-length, explaining, "I've been a part of this album from the beginning so it was only natural that I see it through 'til the end."

Before joining LP, Rubin played drums in the punk-rock band Denver Harbor. In 2005, Rubin replaced original drummer Mike Chiplin who left the band after seven years.

On Tuesday, Rubin will digitally release Coup, the debut record from his rock solo project The New Regime.

Coup track list:

"The Collapse"
"Order Restored"
"All These Changes"
"Take Control"
"Time Erase"
"Haunt My Mind"
"This War Time"
"The Credit 'We' Deserve"
"Tap Dancing In A Minefield"
"Somethings"

Lostprophets are still in the studio, working on the followup to 2006's Liberation Transmission, set for release in 2009.

Is leaving Lostprophets a huge mistake for Rubin or a major victory?

It's a brilliant career move by Rubin and if bringing Chiplin back is the "bright side", I'd hate to see what the dark side looks like. He is not a good drummer.

alwaysforevernow: 11/19/2008 4:14 AM
i doubt mike will come back....unless hes sitting at home bored....
tigerlily963: 11/19/2008 8:40 AM
much as it pains me to see lps drumerless again i agree with ilans decision to leave and i want to know whos replacing him
mikes in a different band so i doubt hes that bored. and hes not a bad drummer - the drums on the first two lps albums were brilliant.
but i think lps are gonna bring in someone completely different.

i suppose it's good for ilan, but it's definitely bad for the lostprophets. ilan is a great drummer, and now they have to look for a new one.

NIN > LP

TRUTH. Seriously.
xxrockchikxx: 11/19/2008 11:46 AM
He was never really confirmed as being a permenant member of 'prophets tho was he, so altho he is a great drummer and was great for the band, i think they'll find someone else quite easily and i agree with tigerlily963-im slightly OMGish about them being drummerless but im sure theyll find a suitable replacement
And i think its great for him, i mean come on NIN talk about big break!!

oh my god. im actually shocked even though i already expected this..i just knew that someday ilan would eventually leave lps..but still im extremely sad :( it pains me to see the prophets' drummer change again

NIN > LPTRUTH. Seriously.

yes, that is correct! still the Prophets are pretty cool too. :)

I hope Lostprophets will find a new drummer soon.
I think Ilan and NIN will match good together.
