EXCLUSIVE: The Ataris' Kris Roe Talks New Record of 'Hook-Filled Powerpop Songs'

What was once old is now new again as The Ataris singer Kris Roe spoke exclusively to Buzznet about the band's upcoming sixth full-length and its return to the band's pop-punk roots.

"We are recording a new album in December in Arizona. The songs are coming together great. Pretty much, hyper, fast, hook-filled powerpop songs, with big catchy choruses ala early Replacements, Jawbreaker, Green Day ... etc," Roe told Buzznet's own DJ Rossstar this afternoon.

Roe also mentioned that The Ataris is planning to tour the globe in 2009 as a full band. Roe had been touring all over the World this past year with an acoustic guitar, performing the band's 1999 record Blue Skies, Broken Hearts ... Next 12 Exits in its entirety, every single night. This January, Roe will be touring the U.K. acoustically, but this time he'll be playing songs from Broken Hearts, 2001's End is Forever and 2003's So Long, Astoria.

Having originally been signed to Kung Fu Records, followed by a brief stint at both Columbia and Sanctuary, Roe revealed that the band is currenly unsigned and looking for a label ... so you record bigwigs better get on that before you're too late!

Will 2009 be the year that The Ataris make their return and blow new school pop-punk bands like Hit The Lights and All Time Low out of the water, or has their shining moment come and gone?
