Emo Fought the Law, and ...

Former Escape the Fate singer Ronnie Radke is behind bars in a Nevada jail right now after being caught for jumping parole. The embattled singer has been having run-ins with the law since he was charged with battery over a 2006 fight that led to the death of Michael Cook. But Radke isn't the first emo/punk musician to find himself in trouble with the law.

In March 2007, Tony Lovato, former singer of pop-punk band Mest, turned himself in to authorities after stabbing Wayne Hughes in self-defense. Hughes was the ex-boyfriend of Lovato's girlfriend at the time, and the altercation took place in the parking lot outside her complex. Lovato was sent to jail and released two days later, with all homicide charges dropped. Hughes had reportedly been sending threatening letters to Lovato, perhaps in an attempt to win back his ex-girlfriend.

That same month, Matt McGinley of Gym Class Heroes spent 32 hours in a Mexican jail cell for trespassing and falling asleep in someone's condominium. (McGinley was drunk and thought it was his hotel room.) He later sent a message to AbsolutePunk about his experience, saying, "Being in jail is the worst. Don't ever... EVER EVER EVER EVER ... go there."

The following month — in one of the more bizarre stories in recent memory — Bring Me the Horizon singer Oli Sykes was arrested in April for allegedly urinating on a female fan while inside the band's tour bus. Sykes appeared in court on two separate occasions to plead not guily, and the charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence.

Finally, later in 2007 — in August — Against Me! singer Tom Gabel was hit with a battery charge after allegedly slamming a man's head into a wooden counter at a Tallahasse, Florida, coffee shop. The reason for Gabel's actions? After allegedly tearing down a negative article about the band that was hanging from the coffee-shop wall, a patron  asked his reason for doing so. That caused Gabel to go on the attack ... he was arrested that night and released on $500 bail.

Once your favorite musician is arrested, do you see them differently regardless of the truth behind the situation? Discuss in the comments.

I still think Ronnie is an amazing singer and a great lyricist and front man.
But i have lost ALOT of respect from him because of this incident he needs to learn a lesson jail might teach him it.

ha I remember when Matt was in jail. They even came out with a "Set Matt free" shirt. (I think that was the title) For most of these artists I can see losing respect for, espically Tom Gabel for smashing a man's head into a counter.

i'm not suprise about Oli Sykes
isnt that like the second time he has done that?
it says something like that on wiekipedia (sp??)
lol

Wow. I've lost A LOT of respect for Ronnie. I'd LOVE to say that I can't believe he did something like that, but I can't. When I met him last year, he seemed like he didn't care about anything or anyone. And didn't even really talk to his own bandmates. It was completely ridiculous. He should've considered himself lucky that he only got probation.. But of course, he had to f--- it up and try to skip out on it.. That's just stupid.
xloratx: 06/19/2008 5:36 PM
oh ronnie
your such a joke!
originalsyn: 06/19/2008 7:53 PM
Yeah, I lost a lot of respect for Ronnie.
When Tony got put in jail, I was like wtf?
I think all of us were relieved with they dropped the charges and called it self-defense. I think it would've been different if he wouldn't have turned himself in to the police.

matt mcginley's story is just hilarious and i'll let tom gabel do whatever he wants because he's amazing (and i'm pretty sure the "battery" was mild anyways). tony lovato's situation was intense and not his fault, imho. and oli sykes: omgwtfbbq?
but ronnie is an asshole who just needs to be convicted already. i'm so sick of hearing about him. everything he does is horrible. he was lucky enough to get off easy with probation and then decides he too much of a baby to actually deal with his punishment and tries to run away from his problems. he's never deserved respect in the first place.
thekaylajae: 06/19/2008 8:08 PM
Nah.
it just makes me think they're stupid, and probably that they'll never do it again. so..whatever. i still listen to Against Me! and Gym Class Heroes. I'll probably NEVER stop listening to them. I like they're music.

I didn't know Oli pissed on a girl. Tisk tisk Oli! Hah. They do need to smarten up. A LOT of it.
Blair Waldorf: 06/19/2008 9:46 PM
Yes, but Matt McGinley's story is actually quite funny.
Ronnie Radke's story is just pathetic.

hate oli sykes because of shit like this, so i dont doubt it for a second.

And Lovato has a bad attitude. Couldn't care less about him, even if Mest made great music.
ashvenom: 06/20/2008 5:10 AM
They let themselves go, but that was something they shouldn't have done. But I won't lose all respect for them - unless it shows pretty clearly that their attitudes are horrible - most of these things could've been one time mistakes.
