It's unfortunate that the first news we have heard from The Deftones in a long time happens to be bad news involving bassist Chi Cheng.



"It deeply saddens me to inform you all that our brother Chi Cheng was involved in a terrible car accident last night," singer Chino Moreno wrote on the band's studio blog this past Tuesday. "He is currently in a Northern California Hospital in serious, but stable condition. I am on my way up North right now to be by his side along with the rest of our band mates and family. Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I'm praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well."

Sadly, there has been no update on the status of Cheng since Moreno's original post, but we here at Buzznet wish him a speedy recovery.

The Deftones, nearing 21 years together, is working on their sixth full-length, Eros, and has been posting various studio videos from the recording process on their studio blog.  Their last record, Saturday Night Wrist, was released back in 2006.
