Cartel's Will Pugh Talks New Record, Sticks Up For Last Release

Will Pugh from Cartel is currently in Los Angeles, California, working on pre-production for album number three. Mr. Pugh took time out of his busy schedule to stop by DJ Rossstar's Punk Rock Show to premiere a new demo and talk about the new record.

"Chroma was very cohesive," Pugh declared about the band's first record. "It was all about, somewhat, one dimensional in the sense of, a lot of energy. The second record was more about us trying to do something different because we had kind of been typecasted as NSYNC with guitars, and we weren't really okay with that. We wanted to show that we actually had some sort of musical integrity."

During the hour-long interview, Cartel fans constantly argued with each other about the band's two full-length's in terms of which was better. While some enjoyed the band's creativity on the second record and were hoping for further growth, others were hoping that the new one would sound very similiar to Chroma.

So what exactly are we going to get this time around from Mr. Pugh and the boys?

"This new record is a lot more of a synthesis between those two things ... the energy from the Chroma but then again, bringing back some cool production stuff. It's the best of both worlds and and I think anyone who enjoyed Chroma is gonna love the new record and anyone who enjoyed the last record is gonna love it."

Mr. Pugh then debuted a demo version of a new song called "The Perfect Mistake," explaining, "We did this demo back at home. Just to get us stoked on things again."

OMG actually doing a piece on something I care about?! =P

As a member of the Chroma faction of Cartel fans, I'm overjoyed to hear that the guys are blending what they learned that people liked from the two records. I loved Cartel and the first record, but not the second one and my Cartel fandom suffered because of it. It makes me sad, but I still have Chroma on heavy rotation and love it.

I'm optimistic about the 2009 release and I can't wait to hear what they have in store for us.
