Buzznet Exclusive: Brody Dalle Debuts New Band Spinnerette in L.A.It's been more than two years since we've heard a musical peep out of former Distillers frontwoman Brode Dalle—and we've cried ourselves to sleep nearly every night. (No, seriously. That band changed our life!) Thankfully, though, Dalle got a babysitter last night—for daughter Camille, whom she had in January 2006 with husband Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age, Eagles Of Death Metal)—and took the stage at L.A.'s Spaceland to debut music from her new band Spinnerette. We were lucky enough to check 'em out.
![]() Spinnerette played the venue's weekly Club NME night and took the stage a little after 11 PM to hoots and hollers from the crowd, which included the radiant Kat Von D and, of course, Dalle's hubbie Josh Homme, who made it to the show after performing a secret gig earlier that night with Foo Fighters and his band QOTSA. Dalle & Co.—which included bassist Nicole Fiorentino, guitarist Bryan Tulao, drummer Dave Hildago Jr. and former Distillers guitarist Tony Bevilacqua—ripped through roughly 10 new songs, including "Rebellious Palpatations," "Sex Bomb," "Driving Song," "Distorting A Code," "Cupid" and "A Prescription For Mankind." Although the show marked the third time the band had ever played live, they sounded surprisingly tight—especially on "Valium Knights," a tune with equal parts punk and polish, not unlike Distillers classics like "Drain The Blood" and "Beat Your Heart Out." According to Dalle, fans can expect a Spinnerette album in Feb. 2009 although she was mum about who would be releasing it. Since being dropped from Warner Bros. a couple months back, a source told us that there's a good chance the record will be coming out on an indie label. (Wonder which one it could be?) Although Distillers is R.I.P., many of the tunes played last night sounded like they could've been leftovers from the recording sessions of Coral Fang. A choice few, however, definitely had a stoner rock vibe to 'em and made us wanna break out the hookah. Musically, this is a pretty big departures from Dalle's punk-rock roots, but it's not like we didn't see it coming. Here's a little taste of Spinnerette. What do you think? Are you digging this more or less than the Distillers?
