The Warped bug has bitten me, and it's bitten me hard.
This past Sunday I attened Vans Warped Tour in Houston, Texas with a few of my close friends.
It was everything I'd ever imagined and SO much more, it was such a fantastic experience I'm already saving up for tickets and a hotel room for next year.
The "Journey to Warped" started Saturday Morning as we all piled into Mrs. Kat's car (and it was a tight fit all 8 of us..dear lord.) and started the 4 hour journey from humble*boring*Shreveport to Houston. After many laughs, jokes, and lip syncing every song on our iPods in the backseat, we FINALLY reached our hotel (6 blocks from reliant stadium). We settled in, went for a swim (im sorry that rhymed so well :b) ordered pizza and *tried* to get some sleep.
Sunday morning I was the first one up. I was wide awake at 7:45 and ready to rock and roll. The others, not so much. Soon, I rallied everyone up, got them showered, dressed, fed and into the car headed towards the stadium at 9:30. This was the point where butterflies were engilfing my tummy and reality had finally set in. We were going to warped.
-insert F*CK YEAH-
We got our skip the line passes, waited in line, got in the doors and we were off. We lost Bella's little sister within seconds (the girl can sprint. Even though there was a buddy rule-.-) and didn't see her til the end of the day, I don't know how she survived on her own :b. I rushed over to the set list, wrote down the times on the very handy warped tour set list app .
Modsun. OHMYGOD MODSUN. He has got to be the sweetest guy ever, he put on such a fantastic performance. (and gave me a shout out after being crushed by a crowd sufer...My bad:3) His energy was contagious and he was one of the only artists I saw that stayed at his tent all day and did signings, pictures and just chilled with his Friend Base.
Sleeping With Sirens was fantastic, the crowd was HUGE but filled with so much energy (and so many feels.) I wish I couldve stayed for the entire set but we had to mosey on over to Tilly's stage fooor:
Vanna. VANNA. vanna. I love Vanna. It could be because of their hair, beards, music, personalities or all of the above, but all I know is that I.Love. Vanna. Their set was fantastic, I love how the guys get super caught up in their music. The crowd was decent but I think they deserved a LOT more people there. However, the mosh pit was pretty great, some guy got an intense nosebleed. FAAAANTASTIC.
Breathe Carolina had me dancing the whole time. I could barely see them(short people probs), but I sure could hear them and that's all that mattered.
Right after B.C came All Time Low. They sound great live and they're hilarious. "Either that was really hot Gatorade, or someone just pissed on me. Keep your piss in your bladders guys."
Following All Time Low, we grabbed Lunch and everyone else went off to hunt for the MayDay Parade signing tent and to We The Kings, while I skipped off to the Band Happy tent for my vocal lesson:D
I still get giddy over this topic because it was my favorite part of Warped Tour (Besides ModSun who was my favorite performer). I bought a live vocal lesson from Joel Pastusak (Clean vocalist for VANNAAAAA) from BandHappy. It was too loud outside to do any kind of vocal anything. soooooooo they borrowed someones VIP pass (belonged to S.Lyman) so I could go backstage to Vanna's equipment trailer... I was freaking out on the inside. Every fangirling bone in my body was screaming, jumping, dancing, singing, squealing and hyperventialating. I somehow managed to keep my cool on the outside...
Anyways, Joel and I talked for about 30 minutes about vocalist-type things. Warming up, tips and tricks, control, range, and nerves (I am naturally a VERY nervous person) and he gave me advice I'll use every single day, I honestly can't thank him enough.
After the lesson I reluctantly gave S. Lyman's VIP pass back and took a picture with Joel and headed to the Silent Disco tent with the girls
THE SILENT DISCO WAS SO MUCH FUN. I danced my ass off and won a Vans Warped Tour T-shirt for doing so. Young London was DJ-ing the event and they were incredible, Sarah has such a great voice.
After the Silent Disco, we all realized how tired and sore we were, but I had so much energy still. I made Emory trek over to the Kia Soul stage to watch Taking Back sunday with me and had a blast! I've always wanted to see them in concert and when I did I felt like I was back in middle school again. So nostalgic...and scary. 0.o
We left TBS to cath the end of The Ghost Inside on the Monster Energy Stage (mainly because MayDay Parade went on right after and the girls HHHAAAAD to see them). Surprisingly, I really enjoyed TGI, they were fantastic. Their set had everyone going, SO much energy. I liked it. I loved it. I would go again, a thousand times.
The last show of the day (for our group at least) was none other than MayDay Parade. Their show was okay, in my opinion. They sound WONDERFUL live, I just didn't really enjoy their stage presence as much as i did for other bands.
After their set ended, so did my adventure at Vans Warped Tour 2012. Our eight bruised and sore bodies somehow made it back to the car, to Luby's (AWWW YEAH) and to the hotel( and into the shower. We were pretty rank). I've never been so sore and reluctant to move in my entire life. But it was so worth it.
I'm already planning and saving up for next year.
PLEASE share your warped tour anecdotes, tips and/or rants about pissy merch guys(yeah mr. vans tent guy, I mean you. dick.) :D
