The Hunger Games: Movie Review
So after not being able to put down the Hunger Games book, it was time for me to hit the cinema to see it on the big-screen! Before I go into detail, I will just tell you, I was not dissapointed. The effects were fantasic, the acting was surperb and it stayed true to the novel. Almost.
One part that did upset me was the scene with the "dogs." In the novel, Katniss describes their eyes resembling each and every past tribute, eg. the big brown eyes resembled Rue. After that, she then describes how each dog had a collar with the number of each district, so basically each dog was a past tribute and the Gamemakers used their eyes and brain to create this viscious monster of a dog. This was something I was looking forward to, but unfortunatley, this wasn't the case.
Despite reading the book, and knowing everything that was about to happen, I admit, I was on the edge of my seat almost the whole way through. The movie was fun and exciting and had the whole cinema audience in silence. One scene that had me almost in tears, was the death of little Rue. Her character was one of my favourites, and her innocence played a huge role in the movie. I found it hard to fight tears streaming down my face!
The acting was believable, and Jennifer Lawrence did a brilliant job in portraying the character of Jennifer Lawrence. She brings to the pulpy material a sense of weight and gravity that few young actresses these days could muster; she has a flinty strength that enhances, rather than belies, her soft features, and its makes Katniss Everdeen a completely believable protagonist.
Rating - not as good as the book, but highly recommended 4.5/5
