Transformers Movie Building Ad Unveiled in Hollywood Today

ENI reporter P.K. Eiselt covered the special Paramount event in Hollywood for Transformers Movie building advertisement that was unveiled today at Sunset and Vine.

I arrived at 5:20am and soon figured out that I was #31 in line. The first 50 people got a free Transformer Action figure and so i was happy that I was early enough to have made it in under the limit.

The 106 FM Radio Show people didn't show up until 6am and the show didn't start until 7am, but the paramount people were already there (and had been since 4am so i was told).

The set up was basically a cordoned part of the Kinkos parking lot about a 1/2 block away from the building with the marquee. They had a large semi-truck and trailer (black - with no prime homage at all) which showed the "Sector 7: EXPERIENCE." The parking lot was blocked off until they finished setting up. The line formed outside the lot and down the sidewalk.

As I waited in line I was able to breifly chat with the people who were in front of me and the growing number of people who filled in behind. However two things happened that disrupted any fan talk time we had because some guys who looked like they were off the street got in line and started spewing profanities about how F**ing cool Transformers. This is why I rarely come to Hollywood.

Daveed from Smorgasborg productions showed up. I met Daveed last summer and he told me about his documentary on Transfans. He was here today to do more taping and interviews. Apparently his cameraman failed to show and he was trying to get set up as a one man interviewer. After some false starts and getting harassed by some old dude (what was he doing in line at 5 am for a Transformer show? I don't know.) I ended up helping Daveed interview some of the people in line. I took camera and we walked up and down the ever growing line.

We interviewed the first guy in line who claims to have been waiting out in front of the lot since 3 PM yesterday. He even had the Autobot and Decepticon logos tattooed on his shoulder blades. He says his name is "Johnny Rock" or "HardJonny" (not our beloved Reb) and is on seibertron (i think). Strangely though, a lot of the other people in line were not big Transformers fans. Some kids (about 15 years old) behind us were just having a bit of a sleep over and were in reality Star Wars fans but enjoyed bumming around Hollywood anyway. Another little 8 yearold kid was there with his mom who was only there because her Brother brought her. We also interviewed someone from Transtopia. He had a moment of silence for TFmaster but then he went off on a rant about Jesus/Primus.

Finally around 7:05 am they started letting us in. Inside First, we registered and received either a Green wrist band or a Red band. Green = free figure. We were told to wait in a theme park type of line. We were told repeatedly that we were allowed to take pics outside but NOT inside.

The radio station 106 FM was set up on the far side of the lot playing loud music. Meanwhile the line led up to the trailer which had a video presentation of the TV-Trailers playing. In groups of 10 people, they were letting us inside for a 15 minute presentation. It didn't take long before my group was allowed in. I got some pics of the door to SECTOR 7 but of course none inside. Inside there were actors playing out a whole civilian quarantine skit that involved Sector 7 tracking down NBE (Non biological entities) and "bullying" us around in a comical Tommy Lee Jones/ Men In Black style. One guy was asked to stick out his tongue while they flashed lights in his eyes.

Suddenly an ET (Emergency Transmission - keep up with the Acronyms people!!) Interrupted the proceedings and a distressed general reported that he would be sending some top secret satallite footage to Sector 7 for immediate review. The Sector 7 actors told the general to stand down and to NOT BROADCAST because there were civilians present - but the broadcast came through anyway.

Next, all 6 of the monitors inside the trailer played: [spoiler]The Scorponok scene, which is basically everything that we have heard before. The Cell phone, Credit Card, the Annoying Phone company Customer service Rep, multiple air strikes etc. The best moment was when Tyreese was blasting away at Skorpy while Josh Dumehl was digging around in his pants pockets looking for the CC. Meanwhile both are dodging Skopr attacks. "Its in my back pocket!" "Which one? i dont want to touch your ass!" "I said Left butt cheek, dude! LEFT CHEEK!!" Some of the Scorp CGI was incomplete and it was neat to watch the wire frame/animatics interact with real cast [/spoiler]

Then were were told to WYS (Watch Your Step) and were ushered over to the Radio Stations table. There our wrist bands were cut off and we were handed a case fresh ---- DUN DUN DUN - protoform. sigh.
I got a Starscream. We also got a poster one-sheet and a ticket (admit two) for an advanced screening of Transformers the Movie.

All in all I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the routine they put on in the trailer. but i was really disappointed with the choice of clips as well as the figures. It seems to me (and my non Transfan friend who went with me) that the [spoiler]Blackout[/spoiler] scene and Deluxe Bubmelbee would have been better. His main reaction was: [spoiler]why didn't they transform??[/spoiler] which is a really good question. It seems like they played this really conservative but considering the people who were there (fans enough to show up a day before or at the very least at 5am) they could have shown us a little more.

On a recent NBC Blog, Conan O'Brien visits Industrial Light & Magic, where we see a quick glimpse of one of the employees working away on "Barricade" for the upcoming Operation: Hungry Dragon 2 film...

A shame to see the likes of ILM also seduced into Sector 7's Disinformation Campaign...

No invention in the past century has better evoked the uneasy relationship we have with technology - a mixture of awe, huge (and usually unfulfilled) expectations and some fear.

A commercial airline pilot has reported seeing two unidentified flying objects in the sky near Guernsey.

The bright yellow flat disc shapes, estimated to be twice the size of a Boeing 737, were spotted on Monday, 12 to 15 miles north east of the island.

Captain Ray Bowyer was flying an Aurigny plane from Southampton to Alderney when he saw the objects through binoculars.

Mr Bowyer said he was "pretty shook-up" by the sighting.

"This is not something you see every day of the week - it was pretty scary," he said.

At first he thought it was the sun reflecting from greenhouses in Guernsey. He said the objects were bright like the sun, but did not hurt his eyes when he looked at them.

The stationary objects were also observed by other aircraft and the passengers on the plane.

Disappearing pilot

John Spencer, deputy chairman of the British UFO Research Association, said: "These types of sightings have been reported by pilots - generally accepted to be reliable and sensible observers - since the 1940s and they have excited attention to this day.

"Such light effects are often popularly thought to represent alien visitors but many UFO researchers believe they more likely represent natural, atmospheric, phenomena not yet fully understood by science.

"However, a similar encounter in 1978 over the Bass Straits in Australia, where the pilot was in radio contact with the ground throughout, resulted in the pilot never being heard from again, so these phenomena are important to study."

Nick Pope, who used to investigate UFOs for the Ministry of Defence said: "While no witnesses are infallible, pilots are trained observers and less likely than most people to misidentify something mundane.

"The MoD's UFO case files contain several reports from civil and military pilots, some of which were correlated by radar. This is the sort of sighting that is taken seriously and should be investigated thoroughly.

"While most UFOs can be explained as misidentifications of aircraft, weather balloons, satellites and suchlike, a small percentage are more difficult to explain. This is one of the most intriguing sightings I've heard about in recent years."

A current spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, said that while it does monitor air space for any unusual foreign objects which might pose a threat, they would not be carrying out an investigation in this instance.
