We’re proud to announce the return of $5hake with a special concert on April 15th, 8:30 pm featuring Battle Cattle, Boys Climbing Ropes, Banana Monkey, and the Rocktigers (Seoul, South Korea).

$5hake got started in 2006 as a vehicle for local legends Banana Monkey, Shanghai’s first garage rock band.

Banana Monkey eventually broke up. Misuzu, lead guitarist, became a founder of Trash A Go-Go, the series of garage rock events that succeeded $5hake.

Lead singer Bono founded fashion line “WhereWhatWho” which has received major praise locally and in South Korea and Japan.

Now, Banana Monkey is back. And with them, the Shake.

Expect cool, retro-rock chic. Expect some of Shanghai’s hottest bands, along with a rocking international headliner. Except cool retro movie clips to set the mood. Expect striking fashion from WhereWhatWho. Expect to shake.

The Rocktigers (Seoul, South Korea): www.rocktigers.com The Rocktigers call their music kimchibilly, reflecting their Korean heritage and love for rockabilly. The band is just off their tour with legendary Japanese garage band Guitar Wolf. Lead by spunky lead singer and style icon Velvet Geena, the band has toured the USA and Japan and released albums in Korean, Japanese, and English.

Banana Monkey (Shanghai): http://site.douban.com/bananamonkey/ The founders of Shanghai garage rock. Local legends.

Boys Climbing Ropes (Shanghai via Canada & China): http://boysclimbingropes.bandcamp.com/ Indie rock anthems sung by keyboardist/vocalist Little Punk and guitarist/vocalist Jordan Small. The band has played their rousing music at festivals all over China and has toured Mongolia.

Battle Cattle (Shanghai via France): http://battlecattle.bandcamp.com/ Young dance punk band in the style of The Jam and Gang of Four. They’ve created quite a splash since forming in 2011.
