QOTD: Who is your favorite female vocalist or band?

Suggested by MorbidSiren.

Even though the music industry still seems to be dominated by men, let's celebrate and enjoy female musicians! Who is your favorite? They can be solo, a singer/songwriter, the singer of a band, or even just the musician in the band.

Why are they your favorite? Do you think it's been harder for them as a female to find success? (If they aren't OMG BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD, do you think they'll find difficulty in the future?)

Favorite female fronted band = No Doubt, hands down. Gwen Stefani is talented in more ways than one.

Not that I didn't enjoy No Doubt, I just find it strange that No Doubt was able to cross over into the mainstream when Gwen's voice sounded like every other female fronted Ska band. When I think about it, Mealticket was teh bizniz.

I forgot Pink! I love her, she's so badass.

Anyhow, favorite female fronted band = No Doubt, hands down. Gwen Stefani is talented in more ways than one.

I like the older No Doubt, like Tragic Kingdom No Doubt! I can't believe I forgot about them!

ALANIS MORRISETTE. Hands down. I have this theory that as soon as a woman goes through her big bad break-up (TM) that just about all of us will go through, they should be greeted by friends with chocolate, liquor (or something non-alcoholic to drink if that's their thing) and a copy of "Jagged Little Pill." Because the amount of honesty and the emotional rollercoaster on that album (I'm bitter, I want you back, I need to learn from this, I'm okay without you, am I okay without you?) is what you need at that point and probably at other points afterwards.

As for women breaking into the industry? I don't know why people are so critical of them, but it happens. I've seen people who worship guys in bands who openly admit to drinking, smoking pot or doing other drugs basically try to crucify a girl in a band for underaged drinking.

It's like the Miley Cyrus thing, too. Scantily clad pictures of her leak and she's "a total whore." Pete Wentz's DICK was on the internet and you've got practically the same people defending his honor and saying his talent is more important. And don't get me wrong, I like Pete, but Miley as a vocalist and musician is more talented than he is (he writes great lyrics, but face it, PATRICK is the musical genius. Pete's made comments constantly about how he's not really that great of a bassist and DEAR GOD HAVE YOU EVER HEARD HIM TRY TO SING? DO NOT WANT. Miley has a hand in the writing of her own songs and is gaining ever-increasing creative control. I still say we won't get a full appreciation for her talent until she's 18 and tells Disney she's walking away from them.)

The point here is? Alanis rules and some people just flat out suck.
WOOT TO ALANIS!!!
I met her before, she's pretty cool :]

I forgot about Goappele. I don't know if any of you kids are into her style of song but she has an amazing voice.

Sheck it out here!

Please tell me that's some kind of sick joke.

Anyhow, favorite female fronted band = No Doubt, hands down. Gwen Stefani is talented in more ways than one.
Why would it be a joke? I thought I explained. Pete's a great lyricist with a hell of a lot more freedom in what he can do as both an adult an a non-Disney property. But at the same time, the guy cracks jokes about not being able to play bass worth a damn and the bass lines in FOB music are pretty simplistic...but occasionally catchy a la "Dance, Dance." And Pete as a vocalist is just a massive amount of NO.

Miley, whether you like or hate her current product, has a set of pipes on her. Especially for someone so young who's voice hasn't totally matured yet. She does have a hand in her song writing and I think we'll see more control from her as time goes on and as she grows up. I believe she also plays guitar and possibly piano? Am I making that last one up?

Miley, MUSICALLY, is more talented than PETE. However, in a contest between Miley and Patrick the situation would be a hell of a lot different. And I'll argue THAT when pictures of Patrick's stump hit the internet.
