QOTD: Is overpopulation a real problem?

PanasonicYouth: 04/11/2008 9:22 AM
Suggested LONG LONG ago by Kiastar67.

As of last summer, we've surpassed 6.6 billion people living on this planet. Do you think overpopulation should be a concern of ours now or in the near future? Should we restrict how many children families have? Or can our planet support more human growth?

Yes it is. In many parts of the world. It's a problem that seems to only be getting worse. I would make cases but I'm at work. Just wanted to state my opinion. I'll be back later to make some reference, I'm sure...

I think it's a big problem. People would go bat-shit if you tried to restrict the number of children they can have (although I think it's the best solution), so I think sex ed and education about the problems of overpopulation should be a priority.

In some parts of the world it definately is. It has been a big problem in Asia for awhile. I don't know about the US though, I think we're fine. Overpopulation is a problem in some places, and that should be regulated.

Ya, but I think we've just kind of got to deal with it. I am not in favor of restricting the number of children people can have. I'm sure someday in the distant, DISTANT future we'll be able to colonize other planets.

Restricting the number of children people can have is constitutionally unsound. You can't do it. Then again...telling a woman she can't have her tubes tied until she has at least 2 children is pretty unconsitutional but it happens all the time. I don't like the idea of the government being able to tell me when I have to stop having children. If I can provide for them I'll have as many as I please. Not to mention Catholics don't believe in birth control or anything of the sort so they can't take the necessary measures to prevent unexpected births. How could that be taken care of it it's against their religion? The government needs to stay out of my womb...

Let's build bases on the moon and Mars and ship about a billion people on each of the bases!!!!
MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
In all seriousness, it makes me sad to think that the number of children I can have can be restricted, but it would probably be very effective... -__-''

There live too many people on one place. The world would be big enough but not everywhere can or want people live.
As far I know is the number of children in any Asian country restricted. If a child die after birth the parents can't have a second one although the first died. That makes me really sad.
Here in Germany the politicans have panic because we get each year less children. Meanwhile they made an advertising that people should get more children.

Considering the French recenlty concluded a study and found that we are long past the point where sustainable farming works... I'm going to have to say yes. The world isn't big enough for the number of people in it now, no matter how spread out they are.

It's a huge problem! I mean, we could stand to have a growing population if it didn't mean cutting down trees. But obviously, if more people are going to be born they're going to need a place to live. Therefore, overpopulation and global warming are closely related.

I think people (mostly dumb people that don't realize realize it's the best solution) would completely freak out if the government said they could only have two kids [or something along those lines].

I guess, maybe if the idea was put out there (you know like, as a suggestion but not a law). Sort of like... all those "anti-smoking" ads. Except it'll be "anti-7 children families" ads. Haha.

I think restricting the numbers of children would be a good idea.
There are families that have a ton of kids, mine has 6, and they use way to much.
My mom had 6 kids that she can never properly take care of.

It doesn't just have to do with overpopulation, it has to do with the care and well being of todays children.
I'm 14 and stuck watching kids, helping them with homework, cleaning up, and cooking dinner.

If you had allot of kids and then you died, what kind of problem does that create?
That is a great number of kids going into a foster home.

Plus, families with a large number of children are usually raking in less cash. So how do they plan to take care of them? How are they getting money for school stuff and collage?

I guess I'm being really mean.

3 KIDS AT THE MOST, PEOPLE.
