Suggested by 5DaggeredHearts! This is the partner to yesterday's QOTD about the origin of our world.
Even though it was already supposed to happen, when do you think the global apocalypse will arrive? When it does arrive, whose fault will it be? Will we destroy our own world or will some gnarly deistic being scorch the earth in anger? And will we finally get zombies???

I R Kitten, HEAR ME rewr: 03/28/2008 10:11 AM I don't think the Earth will cease to exist, but humanity will probably go extinct eventually.
Probably not for many, many years, though, unless there's some nuclear apocalypse or something drastic like that.
I don't believe there will be some Biblical-Apocalypse-type scenario.
Sorry for the un-exciting, Zombie-free reply...
It'll end with a whimper, not a bang.

XBloodyxRosexThexPoisonedxAppleX: 03/28/2008 10:23 AM I don't think the earth will go. Like Kitten said.
I think that our world will end when we go extinct. I mean, it will happen one day. Maybe not for decades but it will happen one day. I mean I'm hearing animals go extinct and maybe our time is coming up soon.

hiddentrack: 03/28/2008 10:24 AM Well, according to some theories, the world will end in 2012. That happens to be the year I graduate from highschool. Just imagine all that studying to get into a good college and the world ends. So, for anyone who is around my age, put down your books and pick up your zombie rifles.
But in all seriousness, I doubt that the world will end due to an enormous asteroid or some Biblical disaster. Perhaps when Earth's resources have been completely depleted humans will go extinct.

tridecalogism: 03/28/2008 10:27 AM im thinking that humanity will cese to exist when all the shi we've put the earth through over the past few hundred years comes back to haunt us. im seeing mass rioting, acid rain, widespread contagion, tsumamis... all ending with a little bit of a nuclear holocaust.
humanity's idiocy will eventually backfire. probably won't happen for a while, but it will eventually.

bulletproofheeb: 03/28/2008 10:41 AM It's going to be from environmental shift. Not necessarily decline, though that's also likely. The earth is just going to change too much for us to continue. We, as a civilization, aren't quick enough to adapt. We try to adapt our surroundings to us rather than the other way around. We're just not going to be about to make it in whatever the world turns into. And I don't give us that many more generations.

Alex ☮: 03/28/2008 11:02 AM In my opinion [Which is totally not backed up with any scientific evidence] i think that humanity will probably go into like, total war. and then it'll be like. bombed and shit by everyone. and then eventually if everyone dies Evolution / Extiction will carry on as normal, as it has done in the past. If we dont all die in the big wars and stuff, then maybe a small community in fewer places, and start again.. Not like caveman-ish but like, after wars do.

vancecordell: 03/28/2008 11:18 AM Many people are discussing 2012 as the end of the world due to interpretations of predictions contained in the Mayan calendar. The Mayan civilization was extremely advanced in mathematics, engineering and astronomy. They also had an incredible understanding of time and space. Various calendars were in use to track time in linear progressions within cycles. The “Great Cycle” of the “Long Count” calendar equates to 5,125.36 years. The current Great Cycle is due to be completed on the winter solstice of 2012, December 21. So, it has been interpreted that on this day, the Great Cycle ends, time ends, so the Earth must end as well.
However, there are different opinions on what this end date really means.
As mentioned, some believe cataclysmic events will take place in 2012 with the ultimate destruction occurring on December 21, 2012. Others believe that the world will not end, but instead humanity will enter a new age, marked by significant changes physically and mentally.
SOME of the examples of the "End" :
1. There have been three or four previous races and ages of humanity (depending upon the source you read). All of these have been destroyed in major cataclysms. December 21.2012 marks the end of this age and it will end in major catastrophes such as Earthquakes.
2. For half of the katun (20 year Mayan cycle) there will be food, for half some misfortunes. This katun brings the end of the "word of God." It is a time of uniting for a cause.
3. As we pass through transition there is a colossal, global convergence of environmental destruction, social chaos, war and ongoing Earth changes.
4. The Earth will undergo a magnetic field shift, reversing the polarity of the planet.
5. An asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
Eww I don't wanna go :(

vancecordell: 03/28/2008 11:19 AM By the way, the most the Mayan predictions were ever off by, was only 10 minutes. Not 10 days/weeks/months/years, but TEN MINUTES.
