QOTD: Who is your favorite President?

PanasonicYouth: 02/18/2008 9:40 AM
It's President's Day here in the US, meaning we've got a three day weekend! Oh, and we're supposed to...honor presidents? Or something? Of all the US presidents in history, who was the most awesome? The most interesting? The most hilarious? Which one has won your heart?

(I know this is absurd. Have fun.)

LOOK AT THOSE CHOPS. SWOON.

I would say JFK for the simple fact that I've been obsessed with him since I was 10.

thomas jefferson!
can i say..declaration of independence, lousisiana territory, all while he was still shy :] well as shy as a president can be i suppose, being the 'silent member of congress' and all.
i just think he seemed like a pretty likeable guy,
and had a pretty good point when he said we should 'avoid entangling alliances'. we should listen to the guy more often.
pretty cool style sense, too.

Washington. He fought hard for this country by defying authority, used force when needed as a general but was smart enough to take the power from a unit at the top and spread it amongst the people, and then refused to take the reigns when he was offered a kingship. That's pretty much as close to Plato's ideal democratic leader as this country will ever see. It's pretty much been downhill since him, with a few exceptions.

Lázaro Cárdenas was the President of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. Upon taking office, he cut his own salary in half, banished corrupt politicians (to the US!), banned capital punishment, took in Leon Trotsky, never had a bodyguard, tuned the luxurious presidential residence into a museum and moved into the relatively modest Los Pinos, popúlarized unions, expropriated millions of acres of land, as well as the nation's oil reserves.
EDIT. I also just remembered, he was a great supporter of the arts. The muralist movement exploded during his presidency.
He did all of these amazing things in just ONE TERM!
And sadly, he was the last President of Mexico I consider admirable.
All duds and sell-outs after that...

Great answer. : )

He also used to take pride in walking among the people unarmed, even at the height of rumors against him.

Bush's limo was so pelted with garbage on his first Inauguration Day, he became the first President in U.S. history to skip the promenade final-steps walk.

Eisenhower warned the U.S. about the Military-Industrial complex even though it must have pained him to realize how it had happened under his watch.

Jefferson was a friend to Indians and sympathetic to the rights of women, at least, white women he didn't own/fondle.

Viva El Muralismo!
