Suggested many months ago by Crash13.
Our modern world was spawned out of a society that was patriarchal in nature: essentially, the male species was almost always in control. While we've certainly taken great strides towards gender equality, do you think we still live in a man's world? Or have women reached equality with men?

Wasn't that the way it was supposed to be?

Ummmmmmm.....are you serious? Or is that some kind of ironic rhetorical question.

I R Kitten, HEAR ME rewr: 02/12/2008 9:38 AM I think that some people will say that we have reached equality.
But I don't believe we have, especially not when you live outside of the US or Europe.
Sexism is still endemic in most of the world.

New Age Amazon: 02/12/2008 10:16 AM Well, I'm sure I'm going to piss somebody off with this:
Yes, we do still live in a man's world. And by that I mean the very stereotypical idea of male and masculine. The idea that emotion is weaker than logic, and that emotion is entirely a female thing. The idea that being able to give birth makes you weaker instead of making you strong enough to carry the beginning of another human being around inside of you for months on end and then force something the size of a melon out a hole the size of a grape.
More obvious are the fact that men are still paid more than women to do the same jobs, there is still a preference to promote men over women, male sexuality is more acceptable than female sexuality.
Women have come a hell of a long way in our country at least, and even we're still not equal. That's not to bring into question the topics of global women's rights: female sex slave trades, bride burnings, female circumcision, etc.
It's still a man's world and feminists, both male and female, are fighting back every day. Maybe we'll never have total equality, but that doesn't mean it's not a fight that needs to be continued.

Do you mind me asking why they annoy you? And which groups you're speaking of? Just out of curiosity/for the sake of debate?

huldaholm: 02/12/2008 10:34 AM Wow.
the women of this group sure are being pessimistic today.
Yes, it is a man's world. I don't remember the exact number.. I think like 496 out of 500 of the largest companies in the US are run by men.
So.. maybe that'll answer your question.
Hey you're the "leaders of the free world" You go and do something about it!
I live in a fairly equal environment thank you very much!
