Hayley's P.O.V
I watched my digital clock hit 12pm, and rolled over onto my side to face the window across the room. Nothing had changed out there since I'd first woken up that morning, there was just rain. An intense shower said to linger in Franklin and a few other towns for quite sometime, but hey, at least there wasn't a blizzard going on anymore. I'd been here for a week now, and slowly everything had begun to come back to me. I knew where everything was, that little thrift store I loved, and the old fashioned Ice Cream shop run by that sweet old couple. It was clearly seen, how much I'd missed being here with my friends. The Farro's. They'd done so much already and as I thought about how to eventually repay them, nothing really came to mind.
This was the ultimate display of love and friendship, I could never pay-off this debt. With a loud sigh I rolled over onto my back, then stared up at the ceiling, in all it's glittery painted glory. Hoping for a spark of some kind, nothing came-- well except for the knock on my door. "Come on in!" Sitting up in bed, I pulled the blankets up to my chest, to keep out the small draft that always appeared present in this house, as if something cold were coming. I watched the maple door open slowly and Zac's head peek inside. He looked me over before allowing himself to enter completly and close the door behind him. He'd always been that way, careful and very thorough. Actually, the entire family was somwhat that way, some more than others. For instance, Zac wasn't as bad as Josh could be.
"Morning Hayles." He glanced around the room. "Why are you sitting in the dark?" Only halfway through the question and he flicked on the lamp, I hissed playfully. Pulling the blankets over my head, his chuckle tickilng my ears. "Alright then...we'll I geuss I'll shut that back off, vampire lady." Hearing the click of the lamp, I peeked slowly above the fabric covering my face and smiled. "Thank you." He nodded and made his way over to the bed, he was still in his sleepware too. A white t-shirt and flannel pants, his hair unrully and going every which way as he took a seat opposite me. "Some weather, lately. Right?"
"Yeah, really...it's like mother nature is on the rag." He stared at me for a moment, and then began to laugh uncontroablly. My cheeks were red, but I joined in. Zac was younger than me and sometimes very innocent, he'd always took time to ponder on if it was alright for him to laugh at my jokes...he was so christian sometimes. I rememberd the first time I met him, it was at church and he introduced me to Josh. At the time, they were starting a band. I thought they were so cool, and for awhile I was their singer. Then daddy-dearest demanded we pack up and move again...so, we did.
I realized Zac was speaking, and I had compltely zoned out, so I tried my best to tune back in. "So, Nate's making brunch...you want to come eat? I mean, that was originally what I um...came up here for. Not to intrude or anything." I smirked lightly and leaned over, grabing his cheeks with a hard pinch.
"Ouch! Hayley?!"
I just laughed. "Sorry Zac, couldn't help myself!" He hadn't changed. Well, his apperance had, but he was still Zac. Josh was still Josh and today, we were going to meet up with Jeremy and Taylor. I wonderd if they were still the same, it'd been on my mind since I arrived. I never wanted friends who changed with age, I mean we all change but, not like- not like he had. Dissmissing the thought I watched Zac rub his cheek, all the while he smiled softly at me. "I'm so glad, you're back." The sincerity in his voice, and the honesty in his eyes scared me a little. "I'm glad to be back Zac, I missed home."
"It missed you too." For a second we stared at eachother and I could swear, I saw him lean toward me, then he stood quickly and rubbed the back of his neck. "So! Brunch, Nate...downstairs! No need to change clothes." I blinked, a bit confused until the lightbulb in my brain finally blinked to life. "O-oh! yeah." I leapt out of bed, and clapped my hands together. "I'll race ya."
"What?"
Zac's P.O.V
She was already gone, before the word left my lips. I stood there for a moment, looking around the room. No, I wasn't concernd with beating her to the table, and it didn't matter if I lost to a girl. What mattered was that she was here, Hayley was home and I could see her everyday, talk to her everyday. I could see she still hadn't fully unpacked, but I could understand why. My family and I, we'd been taking up all her time with outings. The Farro's did a lot of that, we were a unit, a working machine. Not in the creepy way, but to put it simply we worked well together and had fun as a family. She was apart of that now. Like a sister, but I didn't see her that way.
I'd always seen Hayley as more than that girl who sang in our band, but she saw Josh as more than the kid who played guitar and I, well I was his little brother. Still, maybe the tables could turn now, maybe I could have her. Walking over to the boxes, I examined them. Some had arrived before she'd even set foot on Franklin soil, some bangs came with her, others were arriving over the weeks to come. She had a lot of things, Hayley was a GIRL now and it enticed me, not a girl...a young woman and I wanted to know everything about her, everything I'd missed over the years. One of the ugly brown boxes was open, I settled on the hardwood floor wondering what was in it, there was no intention to snoop but she seemed to have become a big fan of books. A rather oodly decorated journal lay on top of the rest of the literature, the cover appeared to be burnt.
Curious, I lifted it from the package and fliped it over in my hands carefully, it had been burnt, recently too. Her intials were written in the back, or carved actually. "Hayleys journal..." Swallowing hard, I looked around. Standing quickly I hurried to my room and hid the new treasure under my mattress. I wanted to know, everything that I'd missed.
"Zachary Wayne Farro!?"
"C-coming mom!"
