Yes, I realise I have not been on here in months! Well, I finally got a job! A really interesting one where I do researcha nd data analysis for an NGO that lobbies for Child Rights. Their initiatives are brilliant, working with children in Juvenile Delinquent Homes. Anyway, this was taken on National Youth day; an event was organised to spread awareness regarding Violence against Women. As I am sure most of you have heard, India recently had a review of it's criminal laws (for the better - it is very progressive in that it looks at every human being as being vulnerable to a number of crimes including rape. Previously, male and other sexes rape was not legitimate. It also condemns militant rape which goes unnoticed.) in light of the recently popularised rape case in the country's capital. It was a brutal case, and the media spared no details...only of this case. All the other rape cases were silent. Anyway, it exposed the ignorance of a number of leaders, women's groups and gurus on the subject. I don't think I need to get into the details but here's the jist of what the idiots said:
Women are to blame for rape if they behave in a progressive way. (i.e. if they leave the house)
A woman should beg her rapists to stop raping her, appealing to them to view her as their sister.
Women should not stay out late.
You get the idea. Ignorant views.
