“Hayley there’s something you need to know”
Taylor’s Pov: Before I could say anything else, Cass burst through the door. Hayley glances between the two of us worriedly.
“What’s going on?” Hayley asks and Cass sighs loudly.
“Taylor and I are dating” She spills. I groan loudly and shake my head. What is she doing? I know Hayley will tell Jeremy, she can’t keep secrets from him. We’re screwed.
“You and who and what?” Hayley splutters, her eyes darting between us again.
“Well I heard Taylor say that he had to tell you something, so I figured he was going to tell you about us, I thought that he shouldn’t do it alone” Cass trails off as she looks at my annoyed face. Silence filled the room as I contemplated whether I should still tell Hayley about Josh Jacob and Zac.
“Does Jeremy know?”
That’s when I decided. She had enough on her plate already with her Dad leaving her constantly; the last thing she’d want to hear is that her boyfriend is a vampire. When nobody answered her question she sighed and rubbed her temples thinking of something to say.
“How long?” She finally speaks. I gulp thinking of a way to get out of this.
“Just after Jeremy and I broke up” Cass fills in.
“He can’t know about this or he’ll kill you Taylor”
“I know Hayles, why do you think I haven’t told him?”
“You know Tay.-“Hayley pauses and scans over me “What happened to you?”
“I was going for a walk to clear my head and I tripped over and set off your sprinklers” I half lied hoping that she’d believe me. She just nodded and stood up.
“Well I’ll leave you two alone”
Zac’s Pov: “Why did you let him go?” I ask, as Josh wiped the blood from his jaw. I couldn’t help but feel bad for my brother. He never wanted to hurt that girl.
“Because I don’t want to hurt anybody else”
“We didn’t have to hurt him; we just had to compelle him to forget”
“He knew about vampires already Zac. He’s not going to tell anyone who doesn’t already know” He mumbles staring at the blood on his hands.
“They will come after us” I warned “We will have to move again” Josh didn’t reply he just stared at the blood on his hands. I waved my hand in front of his face, breaking his trance.
“Brother are you ok?” I ask worriedly. I was concerned for Josh; he’s been off human blood for years this could throw him off the rails again.
“Yeah I’m fine” He whispers hoarsely. “I need to find Jacob. He isn’t getting away with this”
“Agreed, you start looking around, I’ll meet you in an hour back at the house” I say quickly but I notice that Josh is still staring at the ground.
“Are you sure you’re ok?” I ask. He just nods and pats my back “Meet you in an hour”
Josh’s Pov: I texted Jacob asking where he was, but of course there was no reply so I had run out of ideas. I was going to track Jacob but I just couldn’t get the taste of blood out of my mouth. I decided to go get a drink from the closest bar. I pulled open the wooden door and the immediate smell of booze and faint cigarettes clouded my senses as I hovered towards the counter. As I sat down and could feel the gazes from a group of dangerous looking men watching me. There were about four of them, they looked like a biker gang or something. They obviously didn’t scare me though I was a vampire for crying out loud. The bartender was a skinny, young looking guy he turned to me while drying a beer glass with an old tea towel.
“A scotch thanks” I ordered but he just looked at me with a grin. I could hear the men from behind me snickering loudly. They probably thought I was just some teenager trying to be cool.
“ID thanks” He mocked. I could hear them all laughing again in the background. I leaned forward gaining his attention.
“How about you just shut the hell up, and bring me a scotch” I compelled him. He nodded absently and started filling up my glass. He slid it over to me dreamily.
“That will be $9-.” “On the house” I compelled again. He nodded “On the house”
I felt hungry again as I finished my third glass of scotch. Hungry for blood. I shook that nagging voice out of my head and downed the fourth glass in one gulp. The men in the back were talking about me, something about a school boy try hard. I just ignored them as I reached for my fifth glass. Just as I began to drink from it I felt a presence beside me.
“One scotch for me too and hurry” He ordered. I slowly lowered my glass and turned to face him.
“What do you want?”
“You know your manners towards me are getting worse” Jacob teased. I crushed my glass in between my palm, causing the bartender and a few others to look towards us.
“Go away before I kill you”
“Josh, what’s your problem?” He asks innocently. I grab his newly ordered drink and swallow it down quickly, feeling the burning sensation subside my hunger issues.
“You’re my problem” I hiss loudly, I can feel other people glancing towards us, maybe they can sense a bar fight coming.
“You made me feed causing me to get caught by a hunter who is now going to tell my girlfriend, which will make her terrified of me and I’ll have to leave her and this town because of you” I say quietly through gritted teeth.
“That’s a bit dramatic don’t you think?” I hear a voice from beside Jacob. We both turn almost simultaneously to find Taylor leaning against the bar counter with his arms crossed.
“I thought I smelt a vulture” Jacob groaned and ordered another drink. Taylor grinned but didn’t reply as he pulled out a barstool from underneath the counter and sat down beside Jacob.
“Hayley doesn’t have to know after all” Taylor trails off gaining my attention.
“So you’re going to keep our secret huh? What’s in it for you?” Jacob questions wearily.
“Firstly, I want you to promise not to hurt anybody in this town”
“Deal” I say instantly “Yeah what he said” Jacob shrugs.
“Lastly I want an apology from you Jacob” I chuckle under my breath “Good luck with that”
“Don’t you have something better to do?” Jacob groans and takes a sip of his drink.
“Yes, I could be telling a bunch of hunters, and Hayley about you two at this very moment” Taylor threatens and Jacob eyes him up and down.
“Well I could just kill you before you even leave the bar” Jacob proposes with a shrug.
“I doubt you’d want to do that, not after I just found about something very important”
“What do you know?” Jacob demands.
“I know you need to apologize”
“Not happening” Jacob laughs and takes a gulp from his drink. “Oh come on! Are you incapable of remorse? Just apologize” I snap at him.
“I’d rather kill the little boy”
“Would you really in a bar full of people?”
“It’s worth the risk”
“Just apologize damn it!” I snap again. This could all be fixed if he just got over himself.
“Fine, I didn’t mean to attack you”
“That’s it?” I groan.
“Take it or leave it”
“It’s good enough for me” Taylor laughs “Consider Hayley oblivious” He smirks and leans over Jacobs drink momentarily to pat me on the shoulder. He then gets up about to leave but turns around with a smug smile.
“You better start counting your days boys because one day I’m going to make vampires extinct, and you’ll be first to go on my list” I narrow my eyes at him as he leaves with a hop in his step. Jacob grabs his glass to finish his drink, I watch him swallow the scotch but suddenly he yelps in pain. I turn to him as he holds his hand over his mouth.
“Son of a bitch put vervain in my drink” He mumbles. I turn to the door to see Taylor flash me a smile before leaving.
What have we got ourselves into?
