A sign of a true artist is one who can morph a trend to fit their aesthetic - take a sound of the moment and adapt it to make it their own. Two years ago, a Jamaican artist name Tami Chynn worked with Red One and Lady Gaga to produce several pop masterpieces ("Hypnotica" and "Frozen") that were shamefully ignored by the mainstream. Working with electropop siren Erika Jayne is a new hit factory - Dave Aude and Luciana. Coming off a string of four consecutive club chart number ones ("Rollercoaster," "Star," "Give You Everything, and "Pretty Mess") from her debut album, Erika launches her new cd with "One Hot Pleasure" an effervescent piece of electropop. Borrowing from the mashup culture, the song combines Ke$ha's bravado, Kaci's playfullness and Luciana's swagger while throwing in a bit of classic "French Kiss" and "I Feel Love" for a classy erotic twist. Yet with all these different influences, its clearly an Erika Jayne song and the video feels like a continuation from the "Pretty Mess" clip. With a new cd on the way, I am sure that Erika will have many more "hot pleasures" for clubland.
