DJ Rossstar - Top 5 Songs

DJ Rossstar - Top 5 Songs

This is almost impossible for me to do.

Music is such an important part of my life and I am sure this list could change every day....but for right now I will say:

Green Day - Longview

*Green Day's music and lyrics have been the most influential thing in my life for the past 12 years. Longview was the first song I heard by them when the video first premiered on MTV. I went out that week and bought Dookie, Kerplunk and 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours on casettes and the rest is history.

Operation Ivy- Knowledge

* I first heard this song when Green Day covered it on 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. I went out and bought the Operation Ivy CD - Energy and was amazed. It was the first time I heard punk music mixed with ska riffs. I remember listening to this CD over and over. I went out shortly after and bought half of the Lookout Records catalog.

The Suicide Machines - Destruction By Defintion

* I will admit that I bought this CD on a whim. I was in Tower Records and thought the black and white cover looked very "Operation Ivy-esque." I had never heard one song from them before this but was more than pleased with what I got. A modern day Operation Ivy, as I would describe them, due to their mix of punk and ska, their CD - Destruction By Definiton, is one of those CD's in which every single song is incredible. This band introduced me into the world of modern day punk/ska music that I still love today, including: Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake.

Pinhead Gunpowder - Jump Salty

* Similar to The Suicide Machines, it wasn't one specific song that got me into this band. One day in 1994, having recently become a Green Day fan, I was researching the Lookout Records back catalog when I came across a band called Pinhead Gunpowder which claimed to have Billie Joe Armstrong as one of it's members. I immediately bought this CD and could not believe it. Here was Billie Joe from Green Day playing 12 punk songs with members of other bands. Billie Joe and a guy name Mike (not Dirnt) took turns singing on the album. The songs were catchy, the music similar to Green Day, but still different and this was the next best thing to having a new Green Day album. Throughout the years Pinhead Gunpowder have put out numerous albums. All of them are fantastic and to this day it still seems as if Green Day fans are unaware of Pinhead Gunpowder.

Everything Else
* I can not have a number 5 on my list. There are so many bands that have played an impact on my life. Here are a few of them:

Goldfinger
The Offspring
Rancid
MXPX
and more....

Not everyone has to like My Chemical Romance. In fact, I have friends who loathe them. This is his opinion on his favorite songs. Why are you going to knock it? Maybe, try and take a listen to the bands he mentioned. You might find something you like.

I for one think they are excellent choices, especailly The Suicide Machines. It makes me happy I'm not the only one who has heard of them. lol. And three cheers for the MXPX/Rancid choice too. =)

Nice list. I rate Green Day up there too, but I put Social Distortion above the Offspring any day! It's a shame so little people know of them.
