f-i-v-e songs that changed MY life.

#1. Alanis Morissette "THANK YOU" - This song really put a lot of things into perspective for me. I used to worry a lot about the things I couldn't control, or the things that I payed far too much attention to other than what really mattered.. This song is about letting everything go and realizing what you have and just appreciating life for what it is.

#2. Bright Eyes "NO LIES JUST LOVE" - I used to harbor a lot of bad feelings, and was always negative about my life and the people and things in it. I never felt like I was living the life I deserved, and that things weren't the way they should be. I felt really low and almost to the point where I didn't want to stay and continue on with the life I felt wasn't mine.. I heard this song and it really made me think, about how I do deserve more and that I can make it happen. I wouldn't just be hurting and affecting my life, I would be altering everyone elses as well.

#3. Jay Brannan "EVER AFTER HAPPILY" - Basically it's a song about growing up and basically being lied to if you will by parents. That not everyone male grows up to marry a woman, or not every woman grows to marry a man.. Diversity and difference wasn't taught and as you grow you realize the reality and are crushed. It really hits home and it's a song that so many can relate to and I've really grown to love and appreciate this song.

#4. [Tied] Res "THEY SAY VISION" - Everyone has that one song that no matter what it always make you happy and no matter what you never get sick of hearing it. This is that song for me.. It's about finding your own way in life, being your own person, and being a leader instead of a follower to be the just who you want to be and nothing else. I try to live my life this way every single day, I want to be my own person and I never want to compromise myself or my beliefs for anyone, ever.

#4. [Tied] Jimmy Eat World - "THE MIDDLE" - This is probably the first major song that helped me to be Myself. I used to be overly concerned with what people thought about me, so much so that I hid so much about Myself. I hid my personal style, I hid my orientation, I completely lost who I was for years.. I finally said to Myself that I was finally over it and I wanted to be Myself. This song really gave me the courage to take the step in the direction.

#5. Dashboard Confessional "HANDS DOWN" - There isn't a lot of meaning to this song, it's just the song that can always make me look forward. This song reminds me of the relationship I want to have and that I dream to have, the feelings I want to share, and it puts it into words so perfectly.

5 songs that changed my life

1. July by Dashboard Confessionals: Got me through a long distance relationship... or successfully made me cry nightly... Makes you stronger in the end i guess.
2. Jesus Christ by Brand New: Kept me who I told everyone I was even though I didn't believe it.
3. Damn by Matchbox 20: Life is full of "Damn"s.
4. At Last by Etta James: Put the finishing touches on me doing want I wanted to do for once... and it had nothing to do with finding the right person.
5. Cryin Over Me by Cher: This might not be the right title but this song reminds me that I'm better than I think I am and if someone doesn't want me... screw that.

Five Songs That Changed My Life (In no particular order)

1)It's Warmer In The Basement- Cobra Starship
When I first this song over a year ago, it was like love at first sight. I heard this song before I even ever heard Snakes on a Plane (I don't watch TV much, so I didn't see the video until later...), so I was actually really surprised to find out they did that. Anyway, this song just opened my eyes and really, really got me in to this band, who I'm pretty sure I'll be having a never-ending love affair with.

2)Hit Me Baby One More Time- Britney Spears
Okay, I know it's kind of embarresing but.. this is the first song, and cd, that I played over and over and over again in my stereo. The first song that really got me in to loving music.

3)Classifieds-TAI
This was one of the first songs I heard that just absoluetly blew my mind. I listened to it over and over, and I just couldn't get enough of William's voice. I can't, to this day, remember how  I stumbled across TAI back in the summer of '05, but I'm honestly really glad I did.

4)I'm Not Okay- My Chemical Romance
I believe I heard this song for the first time in Grade 6, in the computer lab when I should have been doing work. I was on this music video site, and I heard this, and I just fell in love with it. It was the first song I really loved that wasn't rap, and it got me out of the rather aweful stage of musical taste in my life.

5) Firecracker- Four Letter Lie
Everytime I hear this song, it sends shivers down my spine. I just can't get over how beautiful it is.

Honorable Mentions*:
But It's Better If You Do- Panic! At The Disco
You're So Last Summer- Taking Back Sunday
Sending Postcard from a Planecrash(Wish You Were Here)-Fall Out Boy
Billion Dollar Baby-Alice Cooper
On My Own-Hedley
The Ex-Billy Talent

*It was really hard to choose 5, since all these songs really defined the music I listen to, and actually just generally made me realize I love music in the first place, so I had to at least give these honorable mentions.
