I Love The Shy Losers (Chapter 3)

Three
An hour until my shift ended. Time flew fast, and it was already five pm. I took a man's order and got him his coffee, and then he walked off. We weren't super busy, but business was good enough. I wiped down the counter and then another customer walked in.
"Lumpy Lacey!"
I looked up. Alex Gaskarth ran towards me, stopping at the counter and smiling. "Hi there, Lumpy! Maxine called and said you needed a hug. I have no idea wy I was called, but I came to hug you." He held his arms out and grinned. "You may now hug the sexy guy!"
Tons of girls came up and tackled Alex, hugging him tight. He yelled, shoving them off. "No! I was taking to Lumpy! Get off of me!"
I gasped. "Oh my Gosh, is that Jack Barakat out there?"
The girls got up and ran out the doors, letting Alex jump to his feet. He huffed. "Lumpy, they stole your hug!"
I smiled. "Got any more to spare?"
He caught me in a bear hug, squeezing me tight. I laid my head down. Dad would've approved. He said that if a guy is willing to meet you anywhere just for a hug and if he hugs make you feel safe and warm, then he was a good guy. I snuggled against him and smiled a bit. Daddy approves.
"So," Alex whispered. "Maxine said your dad died and you haven't really moved on. So that's why my hug for you are extra special."
I pulled away. "Maxine's crazy."
"You miss him more than you should," Alex said. "Trust me, I know what it's like to lose someone."
I knew what he meant. I sighed, scratching my neck. "Yeah... I guess so."
"I bet your dad's up in Heaven with Tom," he said, smiling slightly. "I bet they're watching us and shaing embarrassing stories about us."
I had to laugh at that. "Yeah."
He ruffled my bangs. "You're not so shy anymore. I could tell you were awkward, but now I broke your shell." He smiled. "You just need to warm up to people, huh?"
"My dad says I could never just let anyone into my life," I murmured. "He said let your gut lead you before you trust your heart."
"Smart man," Alex mused. "I'm not such a walk in the park."
"I don't like walks in the park. I'm more of a run in a thunderstorm kind of person," I said. "I'l follow my heart on this one."
"Flirting with boys, I see," Terra laughed with a wink. "What would your dad think?"
"What would your dad think if you brought me home as your boyfriend?" Alex asked, smiling softly. "I have tattoos, a dirty mouth, a party-animal attitude, I'm not afraid to speak my mind... what would your dad think."
"Are we talking hypotheticaly?"
He smirked. "What would your dad think if you took me to meet him right now, Lacey?"
I shrugged. "He would probably ask you a bunch of questions."
"What kind of questions?"
I started to mess with something, my gaze elsewhere. "Like... if you smoked, did drugs, if you were seriously in love with me, what color my eyes were---"
"Blue," Alex answered. "Your eyes are blue. I don't like smoking and I've never done drugs."
"Mr. Davis would approve," Terra coughed, then walked away.
I sighed. "Can we stop talking about my dad? Please?"
Alex leaned over the counter and kissed me, his lips moving gently across mine. He pulled away and licked his lips, smiling. "Maxine said you needed a good kiss. My pleasure." He backed up, staring at me. "Oh and trust me, I know your dad must've been a very nice guy if he raised you flawlessly. It would be a blessing to have you as my own, Baby Blue." He winked, turned on his heel and walked out the door.
Everyone stared at me. Daddy said that if I was seen with a boy to call him so he could get his shotgun. Sometimes, I hated living in a smaller town.

"I'll get it!" Jenna opened up the door and smiled at me. "Hey! You're Lacey, right?"
I nodded. She smiled. "Come on in. Were are you parked at?"
I bit my lip. "I don't drive. I have a license but I don't drive...."
"Oh... OH." She then realized why, just by noticing who I was. She smiled. "That's okay. So, how about we get you introduced."
"Can I tell you a secret?" I asked randomly as we were walking back.
She laughed. "Sure?"
"Hayley was wrong about you. She always talked about you and said you were rude." I cocked my head to the side. "And you're way prettier than she is, even without make up. And so far, you're treating me like a human. I'm apparently not a person to Hayley."
"You're Jeremy's sister, huh?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I guess."
"Jeremy's nice, same with Taylor. But Hayley's a little---"
My phone rang, cutting her off. I sighed. "Sorry."
She smiled. "It's okay. Go a head and answer it and then we'll head back."
I took my phone out of my pocket and I answered it, pressing it against my ear. "Hello?"
"Hey! Where are you?"
"Josh's house."
"Josh who?" Jeremy demanded, his voice angry. "You're supposed to be home. I'll tell mom."
"Last time I checked, I was over 18 years old so I can make my own decisions. And I don'tknow many Joshes except for Josh Farro. Duh."
"Stay away from Jenna. She's a demon."
I snorted. "Jenna's nicer than Hayley. Can I go now?"
"Hayley's better than that freak, Lace. And why are you at their house? Are you crazy?"
Jenna smirked. "Tell them you're in the band."
I nodded to her. "Jeremy, I'm their band. Novel American."
"WHAT?!"
"Love you too," I mumbled, hanging up
Jenna smiled. "Are you okay to stay?"
"Yeah."
"Good!" she chirped. "Come on!" She pulled me by the wrist into the living room where everyone was. Zac, Ryan and Josh were there, along with a girl. The girl was Asian and super pretty. She had long black hair with a red stripe going through it, a stick- thin body and obviously really good fashion sense. She wore a pair of skinny jeans and a ripped up tank top and a black hoodie, which had little band symbols and names all over them. She smiled at me and waved. "Hi! I'm Trixie!"
"Hi," I said, shyly waving back.
"Shy?" Zac asked. "She can't be. Wait... you look familiar."
I nodded a bit. "I'm Jeremy's sister." They weren't catching on. "Davis," I added, playing with my fingers nervously.
"I forgot about that," Josh laughed. "Well, sing us a song. We gotta vote you in the band."
"If you get voted into the band, that means we have to be best friends," Trixie said, smiling. "Like Batman and Robin, Peanutbutter and Jelly, Nora and Vee!" She looked at me. "Do you know who Vee and Nora are?"
"Hush, Hush?"
"FINALLY!" she yelled. "Someone understands!"
I grinned. "Did you get the new book?"
She held up her phone. "Downloaded it!"
"I heard Hank and Blythe hook up. Is it true?"
She winced. "Yes. It's grody!"
"No!" I whined. "Gosh! Uh, Nora loses her memory right?"
"Yup."
"Please tell me her and Patch find each other again. Cos I read like, the first half of the book and then Jeremy got mad at me for hiding so he lit it on fire...."
"What a jerk!" she exclaimed. "But yeah, they get together again... and Scott get shot."
I gasped. "Scottie The Hottie? Dead?"
"Not dead, silly!"
"Oh!" I laughed. "Thank gosh for Nephilims! Now, I was told that Hank makes her swear a blood oath...?"
"And Nora becomes a Nephilim!"
"What?" I shrieked. "No!"
"Yeah, and she has to lead his army of Nephilim into the battle with the fallen. Waaah!"
I gasped. "That can't happen! I won't allow it!"
"Patch won't either but what are they supposed to do? I mean, she swore an oath."
"I hate Hank Millar," I huffed, crossing my arms. "No fair!"
"He dies," Trixie gigled.
"Yes!" I cheered. "What about Marcie?"
"She just cries."
"Darn."
"Sorry to interrupt your nerd fest, but we need to hear a song," Josh laughed. "Zac, keep your animal contained."
"Okay," Zack chuckled.
I thought about that. "What song should I sing?"
"What about the one you wrote?" Ryan asked. "Josh said you wrote a song and sang it down at the coffee shop."
"Yep," I answered. I took in a breath and started to sing the song I wrote. Everyone listened, and then when I finished, Trixie clapped. "That is like, PERFECT for a Hush, Hush soundtrack!"
______________
I was in the band. How cool? But I left the Farro's household and I ran off, back to my appartment. Jeremy was their waiting for me. He grabbed me by the arm and dragged me to his car. "Let go of me!" I yelped. "Jeremy! Stop!"
He slapped me across the face, sending me to the ground. "I've been looking all over for you! You have to check in with me at all times!"
I tried not to cry, but I failed. Tears poured fast as I looked up at him. "I'm an adult, Jeremy. I don't have to."
He slapped me again. "You're not sane enough to call yourself an adult. You don't know what you want, you're going nowhere in life, and you're a cry baby. You stil need me, or you can go live with mom. You can choose."
"Get away from me!" I begged, trying to scrambled to my feet.
He grabbed me by my chin, his nails digging into my skin, hurting me. "You don't tellme what to do. You're too stupid to make your own desicions, Lacey. You're coming home with me."
"No! I want to go see Maxine!"
"Well to bad. You're coming with me, not Maxine, Not Josh, and not anyone else who's stupid enough to be your friend. Suck it up, you big baby."
"Somebody help me!" I screamed. "Fire! Fire!"
"Lacey, stop it! I'll call mom!"
"Rape!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Someone help me! Please!"
Jeremy hit me again and again until I finally fell quiet. I sobbed, shaking, my body feeling as if I've been hit with tons of rocks. "I don't want to go with you."
"Too bad! You're coming with me like it or not!"
"I can always do something about it," Alex Gaskarth said, walking up. "Oh, Jeremy Davis! How lovely to see you here, beating your sister."
"I should run her over," Jeremy hissed, grabbing my arm roughly, yankng me to my feet. I could barely stand. I looked at Alex beggingly, trying to dry my tears. "I'm taking her back to my house and I'm selling her appartment. She can't be left alone. She's immature and a stupid little baby. Almost worthless."
I cried, falling to my butt again, too weak to stand. Jeremy hit me again. "Stand up!" he roared.
"No!" I sobbed. "Let me go!"
"Let her go, Jeremy," Alex hissed. "I'll call the police right now."
Jeremy pulled me up by my hair, making me scream in pain. I sobbed harder, shaking. "Let me go, please. Let me go, let me go! Jeremy, please!"
Alex took me away from him. "She's coming with me, Davis. And you can tell your mom that I'm taking very good care of her."
"You don't tell me what to do," Jeremy hissed. "She's my sister, my resposibility. She has to---"
"You sat here and beat her for how long?" Alex demanded. "You're low, Jeremy. Didn't you ever think that she's tired of being ignored? The only one who payed constant attention to her probably was her father. Maxine says that they barely see each other because of you!"
I snuggled into Alex's chest, letting the rest of my tears flow. Daddy would have approved of this. He was a hero.
"I'm trying to pay better attention to her, but for that, she has to come with me!" Jeremy snapped.
Alex stroked my hair, holding me tight. I took in his scent, feeling calm, relaxed. He smelt sweet, like flowers and rain. I closed my eyes, calming my breathing.
"She needs love, not abuse," Alex whispered. "I'll call you in the morning and tell you how she is."
"She's my sister, give her back!"
"She's my soul mate, so can take her," Alex said, turning on his heel and walking away, his grip tightening a bit. He sighed softly. "We'll be home soon, Baby Blue. Okay?"
I nodded. "Thank you, Alex," I whispered, passing out.
