Daily Music Dose: The Blackout

The Blackout.
A post-hardcore band hailing from Merthyr Tydfil in the rainy country of Wales. The members of this twin vocal band are as follows:
Sean Smith: Vocals
Gavin Butler: Vocals
James ‘Bob’ Davies: Guitar
Matthew Davies: Guitar
Rhys Lewis: Bass
Gareth ‘Snoz’ Lawrence: Drums
The band was originally formed in 2003, and was originally called Ten Minute Preview, but changed their name to The Blackout later that year. Their first official release was that of their mini-EP, The Blackout! The Blackout! The Blackout!, which was released on the 23rd October 2006, containing tracks such as ‘I’m A Riot? You’re a F*cing Riot!’, Fashion Conscious Suicide and ‘Its High Tide Baby!’, which contained vocals from Lostprophets mainman Ian Watkins. It was then followed by the bands first full-length album on the 1st of October 2007, titled We Are The Dynamite, which had singles ‘The Beijing Cocktail’ and ‘It’s High Tide Baby!’, the latter being off of the original EP.
Their latest album, The Best In Town was released earlier this year, on the 25th May. It was given a five star rating by Kerrang! Magazine. It features the singles ‘This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things’, which contains guest vocals from You Me At Six singer Josh Franceschi, and the albums first single, ‘Children Of The Night’. One of the songs on the album, ‘I Love Myself And I Want To Live’,. is a parody of the Nirvana song ‘I Hate Myself And I Want To Die’.
The bands sound mainly revolves around the post-hardcore genre, but it has slightly pop-punk edges to it. They definitely have very catchy choruses, and the verses fit in perfectly. The lyrics are always on the thoughtful edge, and the music conveys the mood definitely.
If you’re looking for a new band to listen to, I would highly recommend The Blackout.
