Franz FerdinandMeet, Franz Ferdinand.
Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, this rock band has been taking the UK by storm and are ready to take on the USA. There are many reasons why you should know these guys, but I'll state the most important reason. They're awesome. Don't believe me yet? You will by the end of this journal. Franz Ferdinand, named after the Austrian Archduke of the same name, composed of Alex Kapranos, Bob Hardy, Nick McCarthy and Paul Thomson, formed in 2002, a good year for Indie music. Most people will argue they're a Rock band, so we'll settle for Indie Rock. They're first single, "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK charts, an incredible success. After the single was released, their album, simply called Franz Ferdinand, was released shortly afterwards, debuting at #3 in the UK Album Chart. Their music video, "Take Me Out" recieved great praise and was repeated several times on MTV. The album reached #32 on the Billboard 200 in late 2004 and sold over a million copies in the US (3.6 million copies worldwide). Just when they thought that was the end of "Take Me Out"'s popularity, The band walked away with a Breakthrough Video MTV Award and NME named Franz Ferdinand the best album of 2004. Other singles included The Dark of the Matinee and This Fire. You Could Have It So Much Better... With Franz Ferdinand is their second studio album, entering the UK Album Charts at #1 and US Charts at #8, a great follow-up on their first album. Their most popular single from this album was Do You Want To, which is probably my favourite song of theirs. It's catchy, the video's hilarious and it's evident that they were proud of this song. Tonight: Franz Ferdinand was released earlier this year, their third and most recent album. The first single to come off this album was "Ulysses", but disappointingly, didn't find much success in the UK Charts, settling for #20. The album reached #2 in the UK Album Chart and #9 in the US Billboard 200. Their second single, "No You Girls" saw success in both the charts and on radio waves. The originality of the video is stunning and worth watching. Trust me, it'll be the best 3 minutes of your life. Now that we've got the statistics out of the way, we can start to discuss the actual band. If they're ever in a town near you, I strongly suggest you go see them! Not only is their music amazing, they're fantastic live and their energy is awesome. Also, they performed Womanizer by Britney Spears on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge as well as their single No You Girls. Fancy listening to some Franz Ferdinand now? I should think so. Related Groups:
