Fireworks
Admittedly, when I first started out to do this write-up about Fireworks (pictured above in the studio with Chad Gilbert and Jim Miner by photographer Mike McDougal), I didn't know much about the band at all. I'd stumbled across their MySpace page during one of my random music searches, and I'd liked what I heard. Their pop punk sound was similar to New Found Glory's, who I love, so, I bought their two EPs: We Are Everywhere and Adventure, Nostalgia, and Robbery. Even with all of this music to listen to, I still didn't know much about how the band started or what they were all about besides the fact that they reside in Detroit, Michigan. I had talked to the guys a few times on MySpace, so I shot them a message asking if they could give me a little bit of background on the band so that I could do a write-up for Buzznet, and they were more than willing to share. The guys (Brett Jones, Chris Mojan, David Mackinder, Kyle O'Neil, and Tymm Rengers) were friends long before they ever came together to play music in one of the guy's basements. After a while, they decided to take things seriously, and it was then that they signed with Run For Cover and recorded their first EP, We Are Everywhere, which the guys toured on for two years before going back into the studio to record anything else. Ready to "take things to the next level," the band signed with Triple Crown Records to record their first full length album at Buzzbombs Sound Labs in Orange County, CA, where bands such as New Found Glory, H2O, Thrice, and Death By Stereo had also recorded. With the help of Paul Miner (owner of Buzzbomb) and Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory producing the album, the guys were ready to give it all they had. Gilbert even helped with pre-production where he worked on "polishing" the songs and even "rearranging one or two of them." The album, All I Have To Offer Is My Own Confusion dropped on March 24, 2009, and I recommend it to anyone who was a fan of their past EPs or a fan of pop punk in general. You can currently catch Fireworks on the Not Without a Fight Tour with New Found Glory, Bayside, and Set Your Goals.

great writeup
"Detroit" is so goooooood. Especially the end! WE PRAY FOR THE WORST THINGS. MAKING PRESIDENTIAL THREATS WHEN THE PHONE WOULD RING!
I love "Detroit." It's definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite, off of the new album. I was super excited to get to see the guys at a small venue in Wilmington next month, but they got asked to play on the Not Without a Fight Tour (great for them, a bummer for me). I really want to see them live.
