Tegan and Sara
Tegan and Sara are indie singer/songwriters. These twins from Canada have been performing since they were little girls. They formed a band in 1998 and have been touring and releasing music since. The first time I'd ever heard of them was back in 2007. I was reading AP magazine for the Blaq Audio story and I saw the picture of Tegan and Sara. The thing that really drew me in was Tegan's tattoos. They were unlike any tattoos I'd ever seen before and I was curious to see what kind of person would have these kind of tattoos. Thats what made me read the article.
But the personalities of Tegan and Sara made me want to hear their music. I quickly listened to the songs on The Con, which had recently come out. It wasn't one of those albums that I loved right off the bat. But after listening to them a few times, I loved their music and their songs filled playlists on my Ipod and computer. When I told one of my friends how much I love Tegan and Sara, I remember she said, "They don't even have real songs." Even though I completely disagree with that statment, I could understand what my friend was getting at. A lot of their older music has very simple, repetitive lyrics, but I happen to love that. It completely works with their style as singers. Their unique voice match the lyrics. Thats what gives their songs the folksy, singer/songwriter feel. Their songs are very catchy because of it. Although a lot of their songs showcase their vulnerable side and are played acoustically, Tegan and Sara were greatly influenced by Canada's underground punk rock scene.
