Bayside
Named after a train station in their hometown of Bayside, Queens, New York, Bayside, an alternative punk rock band, have released four full-length albums on their label, Victory Records. The original line up for the band, which started in 2000, released some of their music prior to signing to Victory, but their first full-length album, Sirens and Condolences, was released in 2004. This would be followed by the band’s sophomore self-titled album that was released in September of 2005. Sadly, this would be drummer John “Beatz” Holohan’s last album with the band. In October of 2005, the entire band was involved in a weather related car accident that left three of the band members injured while killing Holohan. After recovering and regrouping, the band released an acoustic album, titled Acoustic, in his honor and dedicated the song “Winter” in his memory. The album, which features many acoustic renditions of their songs, also features covers by Bayside of songs such as Smoking Pope’s “Megan,” and Elliott Smith’s “Baby Britain.” Chris Guglielmo became Bayside’s full-time drummer in 2006, and since then, the band has released two incredibly emotional and energetic albums. The Walking Wounded, released in 2007, contains great songs such as “I and I,” “Duality,” and "(Pop)Ular SciencE.” Their most recent release, Shudder, came out in 2008 and is called a more energetic album by Bayside’s lead singer, Anthony Raneri. Most recently, Anthony Raneri was featured on the “Where Is the Band?” Tour with the lead singers of Thrice, The Get Up Kids, and Saves the Day. Most recently, the current line up of Bayside (Anthony Raneri – vocals, Chris Guglielmo – drums, Jack O’Shea – bass, Nick Ghanbarian – bass), had a cover of Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” featured on Fearless Record’s Pop Goes Punk 2. I prefer it to the original song, personally. The guys are getting ready to start a Spring tour with headliner New Found Glory, as well as, Set Your Goals, and Shai Hulud. If you can’t check the guys out there, then be sure to catch Bayside and many other bands during Warped Tour 15. Whether it’s the strong punk rock sound, the catchy lyrics, or Anthony’s powerful vocals that pull you in, Bayside is definitely a band worth checking out.
