Buzznet Originals 01/23/08: SidSars (in memoriam)

and she was: 01/23/2008 8:03 AM
It's with deep sadness that today we award the first posthumous OG.

I can't really explain why Sidsars didn't get featured before. I always meant to, but I never had the right words, it was like trying to catch smoke in your hand. I'm sorry. But to everyone who knows, he was unquestionably OG.

RIP
Sidsars/
Chance Anson Pritchard
Nov 13, 1975 - Jan 16, 2008

Words from Hulahulagirl:

"One thing I loved about Sidsars was no matter what he said or did online, you knew he was just a damn likable guy. He challenged the status quo and reminded me that we're on this ride to live. I thought his new baby was adorable and sidsars looked so natural at being a father (as much as you can tell from what people post on the internet). It's a shame Kane will never know him in person. Pretty fucking depressing. I never met him, but he changed me and how I look at the world."

Words from Judyfinkel:

"I don't know how much insight I can offer on "Sid Sars"...I mostly knew him as Chance Pritchard. An awesome guy I grew up with who had the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to find him on buzznet after having not seen him for over 10 years. I never really had the opportunity to truly catch up with him. Which makes me sad. But, I can tell you the basics for sure:

He grew up in Caruthersville, Missouri; a small town on the banks of the Mississippi River. His love was Amanda Qichao and his new baby Kenneth Kane.

One of my favorite things he said about Amanda on myspace once was:

I knew that Amanda and I
had a promising future
when I learned that
Old Dirty Bastard
was born on her birthday
and that he died on my birthday

Chance was a great writer. His writing was often times dark, but brutally honest and truly brilliant. He was also a storyteller with his photography. A lot of his shots were real life, raw and uncensored. I always liked that. Chance was obviously a good friend to have on your side. He seemed to always be there for people when they needed him to be. Many times I'd read comments from other buzznetters thanking him for being there for them. All in all, Sid Sars aka Chance Pritchard was an amazing human being who was certainly taken from this world much too soon. But he defintely deserves to have his life celebrated. He was unique and I'm so glad to have known him.

Abscondmongrel and Aptrick also grew up with him."

Words from Sweetgee:

"When it came to expressing himself creatively, sidsars had no limits. like doing a canonball into an icy pond, he'd take a flying leap, laughing back, " the water's fine, see?" . he mesmerized us. he intrigued us. and he captured us... as he captured life, through his poetic shots and raw prose, with a boyish grin and a flower tucked behind his ear.

To me, that's sid."

Words from Zaubermaus:

"I would read all his stuff. He was an amazing writer with the raw ability to see things just the way they were with no censorship. A true Irishman through and through right down to his turned up leprechaun nose, his feisty manner and as far as I can tell, his willingness to go to the mat for those he loved anytime anywhere. He loved his son and his girl dearly.... photos don't lie ...."

Words from Kalipornia:

"i'd love to share some shit that he wrote but it's so dirty the interweb might explode.
suffice it to say
that just like everyone else sez,
he was a one of a kind
a fucking original
from buzznet day one
he had my jaw dropped.

i can't believe he wasn't famous."

Words from Ichrocky:

"so i guess i was one of the last people on buzznet to find out about sidsars the rockstar. i was so wrapped up with the exam that didn't even think to check his site, until amanda wrote me a personal email to let me know what happened. so i guess i thought i would just say a few things about him because i think we all just lost someone really unique. really really original.
sidsars in person...or chance... spoke in a shy way, with a southern accent, ... was SUPER polite. we visited all seven taverns in altensteig one night and had a huge beer at each one, and i just remember laughing the entire time. i'm sorry sidsars rockstar that i can't remember what we were laughing about...i remember we shared a joint...and you told me i was elusive - and that's how i learned that word.
so....yeah....he was my online friend...which is such a weird way to refer to someone...but i guess in today's age, it should be normal. you all know what i mean. in any case, that's all i wanted to say. i thought sidsars and chance were really really cool. i'm glad that sidsars wrote and took pictures cause at least his persona will live on, and i guess in that way he's still very much alive and a part of whoever reads his crazy journal entries and looks at his provocative pictures."

Perfect Days Gone By

Elton the fuck WHO?

Words from Amanda Qichao:

"I thank the universe for all the time that we had together. i thank you for the most beautiful and amazing son- who smirks just like you, just at the right time. i am grateful that you are not in pain anymore, my love. may you rest assured that i will be strong and keep chirpa happy. you are legend.

i love you.

this was one of his favorite pogues songs
id like everyone to have a pint for sid singing

"streams of whiskey":

Last night as I slept
I dreamt I met with behan
I shook him by the hand and we passed the time of day
When questioned on his views
On the crux of lifes philosophies
He had but these few clear and simple words to say

I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

I have cursed, bled and sworn
Jumped bail and landed up in jail
Life has often tried to stretch me
But the rope always was slack
And now that Ive a pile
Ill go down to the chelsea
Ill walk in on my feet
But Ill leave there on my back

Because I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

Oh the words that he spoke
Seemed the wisest of philosophies
Theres nothing ever gained
By a wet thing called a tear
When the world is too dark
And I need the light inside of me
Ill walk into a bar
And drink fifteen pints of beer

Iam going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing
Where streams of whiskey are flowing
Where streams of whiskey are flowing."

You will be missed, Chance. Our thoughts and hearts are with Amanda and Kenneth and your family and friends.
