It’s with true sadness that we report that legendary Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman has died at the age of 49. The tragic news was confirmed by a press release issued moments ago.
Hanneman passed away today, May 2, at 11AM PST this morning in his Southern California home. The iconic Slayer shredder had been forced to abandon Slayer’s live dates after contracting necrotizing fasciitis in 2011, most likely from a spider bite. However, necrotizing fasciitis has not been named as the official cause of Hanneman’s death. The guitarist’s passing has been attributed to liver failure in an official press release sent out by Slayer’s publicist.
The official press release reads:
Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.
We’re truly devastated by the passing of Jeff Hanneman, one of metal’s all-time greatest guitarists. Hanneman, the composer of ‘Angel of Death,’ ‘Raining Blood’ and dozens of other Slayer classics, will be missed by millions of metalheads worldwide. We’d like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Jeff Hanneman, along with his brothers in Slayer.
Rest in peace, Jeff. You were one of the greatest of all time. You will never be forgotten.

Reblogged from jbgriffin
Black Sabbath have unveiled another new track live during the overseas road trek to promote their upcoming album ‘13.’ At a concert in Melbourne, Australia on Monday (April 29), the group performed ‘Methademic,’ which is slated for release as one of three bonus tracks on the deluxe edition of ’13.’
From the limited sound of the audience-shot footage above, the song sounds like it centers around a classic heavy Sabbath riff. It’s also got a strong melody, as far as anyone can tell — though it must be said, even allowing for the dodgy recording quality, it seems that this performance is far from Ozzy Osbourne‘s best moment vocally.
Past Sabbath reunions have been dogged by the singer’s increasingly limited vocal range, and this clip doesn’t exactly soothe fan fears that he might not be up to a full tour vocally. It starts off spotty enough even in his lower range and progresses to almost tuneless caterwauling by the end of the song, with Ozzy barely pronouncing the words enough to distinguish any of the lyrics. Tony Iommi saves the track with a typically compact, awesome solo.
Fans can only hope that this was an off night, and that the studio version of the track will contain a much stronger vocal performance. This marks the third track we’ve heard so far from ’13′ — Sabbath have released one single, ‘God is Dead?,’ and they premiered another track, ‘End of the Beginning,’ on the opening night of their tour. ’13′ is set to drop in several formats on June 11. Black Sabbath will kick off a North American summer tour on July 25 in Houston, Texas.

Straight off of interstate 30, nestled between Texas and Arkansas, is a heavy metal haven, breeding a band named SYLO. The same stomping grounds as Pantera, and around the corner from red dirt rockers , Texas Hippie Coalition , SYLO has been let out of the barn. SYLO is ready to rock Milwaukee, Chicago, and now you. "Monument of Nothing," is the reckless release title of SYLO's 2013 anticipated release. I was able to listen to the three tracks already available via download on all of SYLO's websites. You can hit the links, so you can be a part of the metal stampede of SYLO. Tracks, including heavy metal anthem, "Buried Beneath Lies," the wall of death track, Psyklops, and the title track "Monument of Nothing," are sure to please the hardest core fan, while reaching into the mainstream music nation, with SYLO's epic lyrics and musicianship.

SYLO "Monument of Nothing" 2013 with Metal Sanaz SYLO's live show is a must see. Obvious from the Youtube videos on SYLO's channel , new fans can get a taste of what you are going to experience when SYLO hits the road and a stage near you. LARS ULRICH WOULD BE ‘SURPRISED’ IF NEXT METALLICA ALBUM CAME OUT BEFORE 2015 by Graham 'Gruhamed' Hartmann April 29, 2013 12:15 PM
Better be patient, Metallica fans, because drummer Lars Ulrich isn’t expecting to release another album for another couple of years. Metallica just took a trip to South Africa to perform one concert in Johannesburg and two shows in Cape Town. During an interview with South African news source Channel24, Ulrich spoke about Metallica’s next release, the band’s longevity and much more. “It would surprise me if the next full-length Metallica record would come out before 2015,” Ulrich tells Channel24. “It takes us awhile to make records, and we’re also so busy with so many other things. But we’ll get around to it eventually.” Ulrich also offered some inside info on Metallica’s longevity.
“When you’re younger, you’re a bit more fit for fight, or ready to kind of… it’s either your way or no way,” Ulrich explains. “But I think as you get older, you start realizing that what you have is special. [We realized] that at least in this band, Metallica is the sum of all parts, so if all the parts are not there, it’s not Metallica. So you have to find a way to kind of give and take and balance and compromise, and sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow, and sometimes you dig your heels in and other times you let go. It takes some time to figure that out.” Ulrich continues,
“I think a really big help in our situation was the fact that we all had kids more or less around the same time. So when you have no kids — and this is the ‘sound bite’ version of this — you think primarily of yourself. When you have children, you think primarily of others before yourself. So, I think some of the things about the way you relate to your children and put your children first, you learn to, kind of, put your own needs secondary. And I think the fact that we all had kids at the same time helped instill that in us. And so you try to, sort of, sometimes just put your own needs second and learn to trust that you can go with somebody else’s thought and opinion.”
