We Got There In The End - Chapter 15

Alex G’s POV
“I’m so sorry Kenzie” I apologised again
“It’s fine Alex” she sighed “I’m used to it”
“It’s not fine” I argued, but she just shrugged her shoulders. I was trying to keep my anger to myself, but it was hard. The date had been going so well and then it got ruined. It all happened so fast. We’d finished dinner and had just gone for ice cream for dessert, everything moving along perfectly. I took a chance and grabbed her hand which she didn’t seem to mind and then trouble found us. At first it was only two girls, and in next to no time we were surrounded by fans wanting photos and autographs and to tell me their whole life story. One girl, I swear, if I let her would have told me her gold fish’s family tree. What really made me mad was the way they treated Kenzie. They literally pushed her out of the way, her hand ripped from mine so they could get closer to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love our fans, but this was my personal time, and they’d crossed a line.
After fifteen minutes, I finally managed to tell them that I was busy and I had to go. Most left, some lingered. I found Kenzie sitting at a bus stop a few feet away, looking up at the sky
“Maybe we should just go back, now that they’ve found you” she suggested, and I started to panic, I didn’t want it to end yet.
“Just one more stop” I rushed “please?” I begged. She agreed and I took her hand again, and with a quick look behind me at the girls now taking photos, I led her back to the car.
“Why here?” she asked as I led her out of the car and down to the rocks. I helped her over one and onto another, before sitting down and patting the spot next to me. She sat awkwardly and smiled shyly “This dress isn’t really designed for sitting on rocks gracefully”
“It’s ok, I promise I didn’t look”
“So” she began “why are we here?” she asked again
“Whenever I want to be alone or to think, I go to the water” I explained “The beach, a lake, river, pond”
“So which is it this time? You want to be alone or you want to think?”
“I definitely don’t want to be alone” I winked “And I’ve already done my thinking” I turned towards her “so I brought you here to tell you something”
“You’re secretly an axe murderer who feeds his victims before killing them and throwing them into large bodies of water?” she guessed
“Ha ha, very funny” I quipped “Good guess, but no”
She laughed then asked “So what is it then?”
I took a deep breath before speaking. “I like you Kenzie3, like really like you and I want to get to know you better and I want to hang out with you any time I want and I want to take you out on more dates” I stated “And I want you to be my girlfriend, and I know that sounds so high school romance but-”
“Yes” she cut me off
“Yes?” I questioned, not believing my own ears
“Yes” she repeated
“Seriously?!” I shouted excitedly, making her laugh
“Ok, well then there’s one more thing that I want”
“More?” she joked
“I want to kiss you. So badly”
“So why don’t you?” she challenged. Without another word I leaned forward and pressed my lips against hers. It was a slow kiss, but was building. Without realising it, I was pushing her onto her back. I smiled when she moaned and breathlessly whispered my name, but I became aware of her hands pushing me away.
“What’s wrong?” I panicked, worrying I’d gone too far
“I have a rock in my back” she nodded down to the large, misshapen rock we were on
“Right” I helped her to her feet again “I should probably get you back now” I realised that it was almost midnight.
“We probably should” she agreed.
Fifteen minutes later I was standing outside her bus trying not to say goodnight
“I had a really nice time” she smiled sincerely
“Me too. Thanks for agreeing to go out with me” she smiled, but it was a strange smile
“I’ll see you tomorrow” she stepped forward and kissed my cheek, before disappearing into the dimly lit bus.
