The Ancestor's Tale - one cell in the sea....

I've been slowly reading Richard Dawkins' The Ancestor's Tale for a while now.  It's an account of how our evolutionary heritage links up with the rest of the natural world.

What comes over very strongly is the feeling of being inter-connected with everything.  Influenced by that, I wrote a piece of music called Grey Seal, which is on my website, which uses the sounds of a grey seal and other sea creatures as the basis for the music. (http://sweep.infinite9ths.com)

Interestingly there's the same idea in The Minnow and the Trout - we were one cell in the sea in the beginning so despite differences we're basically the same substance.

I'd definitely recommend The Ancestor's Tale - and this is possibly a better way to approach Dawkins than through his sometimes too strident atheism.  And it's interesting to find two very different musicians being inspired by the same idea in very different ways.
