Excitement In the Complex
Last night right after I finished posting my BSTG Story Assignment #16, Kay came into my room and asked me if I heard that noise! I did! We started looking out the window and realized the sound was a fire alarm and that the emergency location light was going off on the building directly across from us! We opened the windows and sat down to figure out what was going on! People were running everywhere, so we decided the thing we could do to be most helpful was to stay out of the way!
It turned out that is wasn't a fire! It was a flood in one of the ground floor level apartments! I picked up my phone to call 911 when I heard a neighbor yell that they had called and fire trucks were 5 minutes out! Not everyone knew yet that it wasn't a fire! The people outside started collecting buckets and bailing water out the front door! It was A LOT of water!
Over time we basically figured out what happened! The smoke detectors and sprinklers had gone off in that apartment! The family got home, and found their house full of water! No one could get the siren or the sprinklers to go off! When the fire fighters did finally arrive, it took them another 10 minutes to get the sprinklers off! What caused them to go off in the first place, I do not know! I can only imagine the damage done to my neighbors belongings! You could hear in their voices how devastated they are! I am really proud of us as a community how we all did what we could, even if it were only to lend a bucket!
